Shane Moore worked 12 years as a decorated police officer and a record holding Triple-A semi-pro football player. In 2004, he was stabbed in the line of duty. To cope with sleep anxiety brought on by that event, he penned The Plea of Apollisian. The book sold so well it led to an entire fictional world, spanning three franchise writers and fourteen novels. By 2008, Shane ended his law enforcement career and started writing full time.

Episode 21

Shane Moore joins I Am Better, Scott and RJD to debate Nicholas Cage Vs Johnny Depp, who they’re betting on to win best picture, and peanut butter.

Why does Nicholas Cage get all the hate and Johnny Deep is beloved?

Topic Two:  That’s some sweet action

Boyhood $100 bet would win $5
Birdman $100 bet would win $1500
The Grand Budapest Hotel $100 bet would win $1500
The Imitation Game  $100 bet would win $1500
American Sniper $100 bet would win $2500
Selma $100 bet would win $2500
Theory of Everything $100 bet would win $3000
Whiplash $100 bet would win $5000

Want to play along at home? Play The Supernaughts Oscar Pick ‘Em game!

Topic Three: My voice shall echo through time long after yours has faded to a dim memory!

Tom Hardy bailed on suicide squad. Are you ready to bail on the project?

Over/Under

Galaxy Quest
Tina Fey/Amy Poehler

Were-Creatures

[td_text_with_title custom_title=”Listen!”][/td_text_with_title]
  • Mr Nick Nightly

Definitely not bailing on Suicide Squad because Hardy left. Allegedly he was just unhappy with his role being reduced and being revealed as the villain.

  • I_am_better

I guess Gyllenhaal is out of the speculation too. So – who should it be…?

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    Ben Affleck.

  • Tim R.R. Something

Nice spoiler. Wasn’t that the same plot device they used in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen?

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I don’t work on the film so I can’t be held accountable for any “spoilers” since none of my information is confirmed first hand. That said, the Suicide Squad is allegedly out to stop Luthor from buying some biological weapon or some shit. The Joker has kind of a Hannibal Lector role, spending the film in a cell until he leads a huge prison break. And then Flag is revealed as bad guy to the Squad as he wants to steal all the weapons that Waller & co. have accumulated

Again, this could all be bullshit.

  • I_am_better

    How about Brad Pitt

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I like Pitt. I’d be cool with that.

  • I_am_better

Well, Ayer should just call him. I guess they had a good time doing “Fury”(which I still need to see)

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Same here. I hear it’s awesome.

  • Tim R.R. Something

E books are great but I will miss paper, miss bookshelves.

  • Michael b Jordan ?

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    Or Michael J. Jordan?

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Sorry fellas, Seal is fucking awesome.

  • franks_television

I’d put my money on American Sniper based on those payouts. Seems like Boyhood is most likely, but $5 isn’t worth it, and I think AS would have a better chance than Birdman or GBH. Interesting to me that those are so high in the running.

  • Tim R.R. Something
  • franks_television

Kiss from a Rose is a good song.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

So, the years haven’t been kind. He can still sing, though!

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    One of many.

  • Tim R.R. Something

AS ain’t gonna win. Too hated.

  • franks_television

I can’t see Birdman winning either. Too weird.

  • I_am_better

Watched “Locke” today, and dayum can Hardy carry a movie all by himself. He don’t need a team

  • Tim R.R. Something

No the further down you go the more Seal/seal hybrid images appear. Yuck.

  • franks_television

    Could be.

  • This was so much fun. Shane was a great guest.

  • I_am_better

Oh, yeah – the peanut butter-situation

  • Didn’t Johnny Depp pay off Cages taxes ? Also, Cage got johnny started in the acting business

  • Tim R.R. Something

Sorry, Bane stunk, and what did Hardy get for it? His face covered, his voice muffled and he’s a laughingstock.

  • Selma did nothing for me.

  • I made some predictions. Then i have my wishlist. I have to see a couple more movies , including Boyhood, before i make my official pick AT THE SUPERNAUGHTS.COM

  • Tim R.R. Something

34:10 worst joke ever made in Supernaught History. Congratulations. Save it for the awards show.

  • But…there’s so many to choose from.

  • if the best picture nom was just 5 films , Selma, and Budapest would not be up there.

I believe that the actors in selma just missed the top 5 spots. as did Eastwood and marsh in the director catagory

  • I_am_better

    “so far”

  • Tim R.R. Something

No that’s the worst. Full stop. He couldn’t even get a courtesy giggle out of you guys. You’re the jury of his peers and you convicted him on the spot.

  • Hardy read the script. Scheduling had nothing to do with it !!

  • I_am_better

Wait for the end. There’s more

  • Tim R.R. Something

    Spoiler Mcspoilery!

  • Blame Edgar Wright for keeping Ant-Man on the shelf for so long.

  • Tim R.R. Something

I thought you MARRIED polar bears….

  • Dee

    Seal made one good song.

  • Nice shout out 🙂

  • Dee

Seal is divorced and Heid Klum stinks. IAB gives me headaches?

  • Underrated

  • I_am_better

I don’t know what that was about. Gotta ask Slate

  • Dee

Incredible, how Cheetos became inevitably associated with “that one person”.

  • I_am_better

Because you need to edit me so much….?

  • Underrated/Underrated

As writers and actresses ( comedic actresses anyway )

  • i never watch the Golden Globes

  • Overrated.

I eat it very rarely. Every time i do i wonder why i did it. move along-

  • Dee

    Don’t use “Brolo” in German.

  • Tim R.R. Something

You better stay away from him
He’ll rip your lungs out Jim
Huh, I’d like to meet his tailor

  • I_am_better

What’s it mean? Dare I ask?

  • Dee

A “Prolo” is short for “proletarian”. It’s our word for White Trash.

  • I_am_better

Ah. I thought it was some dirty word.

  • Dee

It’s very derogative. It would create unwanted chuckles.

  • Tim R.R. Something

Scott great, you can get the “long” version of his story from him.

  • Were-creatures ?

    I don’t know .

    The Were-kittens are underrated.

    https://danielarfire.files.wordpress.com/2014/12/cat.jpg

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    Several good albums, yes.

  • Dee

He did? I only know the radio stuff, to be fair…

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Bane is one of my favorite cinematic villains, superhero film or otherwise.

  • Dee

Nic Cage is the better actor, Johnny Dep made the better career decisions.

  • Tim R.R. Something

That particular Bane, I should have said.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

That’s what I was referring to.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    “Alleged” spoilers.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I guess I should have as well.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Yup. He was also my first concert back in 1995. For the record, I was a fan before “Kiss From A Rose.”

  • I_am_better

Well, Cage is the one of the two who won an Oscar

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    As are the were-rabbits.

  • Dee

My take: Both Cage and Depp started out in the independent movie scene. But Cage started selling his soul to Jerry Bruckheimer in the 90s. He was insanely popular for a time, mind you. But he burned out, artistically by acting in more worse and worse movies (with a few exceptions like Bad Lieutnant).
Depp was more eclectic with his role choice in the 90s, a few clunkers did not hurt the overall impression. When the Naughties arrived, he was no BO magnet, but insanely popular (because of his outsider image and also because of his looks). When he accepted the Jack Sparrow role, he could transport his eccentric image into a popular BO-heavy blockbuster without hurting his credibility. That went well for a while, till Lone Ranger came around.

  • Dee

I stand corrected. I also knew Stevie Wonder only from his pop kitsch songs for a long time.

  • Tim R.R. Something

I’ve often wondered what “happened” to God between the old and new testaments. He’s very angry and homicidal but something happens, Jesus is the very opposite of all that, for lack of a better word, rage. Probably a story there.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

The best career choice Depp made was starring in 21 Jump Street. He locked in all the young ladies and then started making interesting films for a while.

  • Abe

    Thank you. Thank you

  • RJD

    he got laid

  • I_am_better

Shoulda subtitled the episode “the Were-shark dilemma”

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Stevie Wonder has made a ton of bullshit, but from the 60s-mid-70s he was on fire.

  • Dee

I think his appeal was that he was good looking but also the awkward outsider. That made him relatable for the male as well as the female audience.

  • RJD

    i think i might actually , if i can find a site, put $ 100 on whiplash.

do i think it will win ? no

but its a helluva movie and look at the return on that long shot

  • RJD

    damn

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Yup. He was certainly no Joey Lawrence.

  • RJD

Sparrow is his greatest role, and it destroyed his artistic integrity

  • I_am_better

But if a Were-Shark likes peanut butter, then the shit has really hit the fan

  • Tim R.R. Something

Blow it on scratchers, even if you still lose at least you’ll have to stop compulsively masterbating for a few minutes.

  • RJD

    been called it before

  • Dee

With the sequels. He could uphold a bit of integrity after the first one.

  • RJD

    lmao

bake a cookie with it and get back to me

  • Dee

Season of the Witch is a blast.

  • RJD

    no

you were gold in that episode!

  • That got destroyed with his first movie with Tim Burton.

  • Abe

You may find it hard to believe, but I can hook you up with the sites.

  • RJD

cant hit a home run every time

  • I’m shocked.

  • RJD

    i hope you win.

i think we should give away a dvd or something

  • RJD

good call. you should have a show or something

  • Dee

Ghost Rider sucks though. A lot. Both.

  • Glad someone agrees with me.

  • RJD

thats why he shouldnt be in suicide squad.

in a team movie you either go full dirty dozen all stars or go eccentirc pics and little know.

id like to go little know honestly

  • Dee

Unwatchable drivel. The character has so much potential.

  • RJD

    were never gonna survive
    unless
    we go a little
    crazy

  • Mr Nick Nightly

My own feelings aside, Seal does not deserve to be trashed. You might think his music sucks, and that’s fine. But look around at his peers in pop music. This is one of the only artists who will write their own songs, plays actual instruments, can actually sing, and never lip syncs. He deserves respect whether you like his music or not.

  • RJD

    dude was born ugly

  • Dee

    Neveldine/Taylor are overrated juvenile fratboys.

  • Abe

    I agree with that 100%.

  • I_am_better

    They’re way too ADHD

  • Abe

Overrated juvenile fratboys who have made 2 of the best action films EVER.

  • Dee

    Agree to disagree.

  • RJD

    hell Nick …

you just sold me the movie

    that shoulds great.

and hardy can take these type of roles later. hes going to be a huge star right about .. now

  • RJD

he should only be in BB2 : cowboy booty

  • RJD

Pitt could play a few great superheros.

    Adam Warlock
    Dr Strange

after joe black hed be a fun Beyonder

  • Abe

    Whoa.

  • No one is safe, regardless of perceived talent.

  • RJD

he made a few good films with burton and then it just got bad

  • Abe

    Just a joke. I shouldn’t try.

  • RJD

i think ill spend it honestly.

its a great film. better than some others that have won best picture

    J.K.Simmons MFERS

  • I_am_better

    Crickets again….?

  • Tim R.R. Something

Lucifer as anti hero/ God as bad fathertyrant. That’s basically cliché now. Give me something else.

  • Dee

A comeback of an actor in a movie about an actor making a comeback is too tempting for the Academy.

  • Abe

haha. Yes. Given what was going on that day I knew should try and make with the jokes, but I went ahead anyway.

  • Dee

I read rumours about the Suicide Squad plot. Hope they are not true.

  • I_am_better

Oh, there was soo many spots there to use the “ba dum tssh”-sound

  • I_am_better

I’m just worried that portrayals of real people are again picked. Then again Redmayne went full Hawking, so….

  • RJD

my tribute to Nick N. Seal singing one of my fav songs from the greatest film of all time.

  • RJD

i have not seen it. i am a huge Hawking fan but i dont think i want to watch him deteriorate.

  • Dee

Agree about Hardy. He already had his DC role.

  • RJD

    Milton had it right

  • RJD

we are back in agreement brother

  • RJD

LIKE ? NICKS RUMORS SOUND AWESOME

  • I_am_better

There are plenty of good documentaries made of him already

  • RJD

    agreed

  • The Fountain 🙂

  • RJD

i agree with scott. everyone deserved to be trashed, sometimes

  • Dee

    oops… I heard the same

  • I_am_better

aka. “that thing with the bubble with a fuckin’ tree in it”

  • RJD

joker in a padded cell ? thank you

    joker escapes ? thank you

now they need to announce a Batfleck film aka the killing joke movie. impress us DC

  • RJD

Batman Forever – the most sensitive of the Batman films

  • he didn’t mind being a team player in Inception. I think his role was just reduced to much in the script he eventually got. Or its just really bad, in which case more players might drop out. Not Will Smiff. He NEEDS this movie.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

And supposedly Joker racks up a nice body count during the riot.

  • Dee

    David Ayer’s filmography is sketchy.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Ahh I remember the big FM tribute. Axl should not have been there.

  • RJD

    oh man …

you know Im a marvel but they have been trashing my fav character for years. they make joker full boat homicidal maniac .

Batfleck solo film where they mimic ” KILLING JOKE ” …

    Id consider switching

  • I_am_better

Didn’t I foresee this Suicide Squad thing some time ago? I remember saying something about “let’s just see if somebody drops out and then it’s all open for Jaden Smith to come in”….

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Well, you’ll never hear ME trash talented people, or anyone for that matter.

  • RJD

    I agree.

    Neither Metallica.

Metallica always seems to lpay their worst under the big lights of the Grammys or things like this

  • RJD

noted. you just are too classy for that kind of behavior.

    heres acoustic Crazy

  • I_am_better

I hope I’m not an oracle

  • RJD

yea that was a great line …

damn can i change my vote ?

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Axl just doesn’t have the voice. And I like Axl! But his part in “Bohemian Rhapsody” was rough.

  • RJD

hes mad max now. hes bane.

i feel like toms too big for a movie like this.

also will as well even though he aint made a good film in a while

  • I’m guessing more players will drop out. When more rewrites are done, and parts get cut short, like Hardys did maybe, more guys will drop out. not Will Smiff. Cause he NEEDS this.

  • RJD

    Axl Rose

    Studio God

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I am so intrigued with what he future holds for these films. Fingers are crossed.

  • RJD

no MOS 2 and Batman films being announced make me uneasy. But they might be sand bagging us …

they have a dozen batman stories they could make out of graphic novels alone better than what weve seen so far

  • I_am_better

    There’s always that 21 Jump Street/Men In Black-crossover….

  • Dee

Were-creatures: underrated, because they have rarely been done right.

  • Dee

We had the Werewolf argument on our horror podcast episodes!

  • I_am_better

    But not Were-Sharks…;)

  • Dee

The Horror of Innsmouth has were-fishes and it works.

  • Tim R.R. Something

They were not were-fishes they were going to be fishes.

  • I_am_better
  • Dee

    same difference.

  • Dee

yeah that was a good one

  • Mr Nick Nightly

We’ll still see Superman and Batman in at least three more films in the next five years.

  • Tim R.R. Something

I grew up near Innsmouth. Arguably I grew up in Innsmouth- Gloucester Mass. the port town near where the fictional Innsmouth is.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I once chatted with the director 😉

  • Dee

    Are you a good swimmer?

  • Tim R.R. Something

Yeah but no webbed fingers or hot chick sacrifices. I would have stayed for those.

  • Tim R.R. Something

Maybe I could write a sequel set in the 1970s where Boston Yuppies try to colonize all that run down seafront property.
Forget Yog Sothoth, Yog Realty consumes all.

  • Tim R.R. Something

The problem will be them trying to skew it PG. It’s why when the Joker riots we will see him killing robot guards or some shit.

  • Tim R.R. Something

Just been done a lot. Give me something new.

  • Tim R.R. Something

“Condos Over Innsmouth” by the Willard Press.

  • Dee

    Great guest again!

  • RJD

its one of the best ” chthulu mythos ” films ever

  • I_am_better

    That seems very fishy indeed

  • Tim R.R. Something

Sure. Might save somebody from trouble.

  • thats what i said.

  • I_am_better

He could just as easy just post something titled “Give me money”

  • Dee

The Namibian prince is the only one I trust.

  • I_am_better

Still waiting on those exchange rates to balance out?

  • Dee

    Soon.

  • franks_television

    Is there a movie?

  • franks_television

    Do you have over-protuberant eyes?

  • franks_television

    Not saying much, though.

  • franks_television

No I’m friends with that guy. He’s legit.

  • RJD

    One was better

  • RJD

They do a poor job adapting eldeitch horror

  • I_am_better
  • I_am_better

I’m not a “guest” per se. I’m more like furniture, lol

  • DEAD TO ME

  • franks_television

Well you had me until the last one.

  • It was hard to find a picture of it where it looks good on a hamburger and that’s the best I could do. I’m telling ya though, try it, it’s fucking awesome. I questioned it at first too.

  • Abe

It is amazing. I agree with Puck.

  • Abe
  • Tim R.R. Something

It is amazing that you agree with Puck.

  • Tim R.R. Something

Do your guests ever read any of the shit we post?

  • Tim R.R. Something

    On a burger? Gross.

  • Abe

That’s why I phrased it as such.

  • I_am_better

    I think John Ary did

  • Abe

The chumps from episode 18 did.

  • I_am_better

    And 16 & 20 too, I believe

  • Tim R.R. Something

    podcast!

  • Kylo Ronin

Yeah, the original Left Behind has been compared to the remake and lot of folks have been saying the old one is ten times more entertaining. Wut.

  • Kylo Ronin

Nicolas Cage is in a slump. He’s gonna make an epic comeback.

  • Kylo Ronin

Okay, The Lone Ranger……………………haven’t seen it.

  • Kylo Ronin

I kinda thought Ghost Rider’s climax would have been marginally improved if SAM ELLIOT WAS PART OF IT.

  • Kylo Ronin

I haven’t seen Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance yet. Hear that it’s better than the predecessor.

  • Kylo Ronin

If American Sniper wins best picture, I am going to laugh my ass off.

  • Kylo Ronin

The Grand Budapest Hotel. I would totally be okay if it nabbed best pic. Wish I’d seen Birdman though.

  • I_am_better

    I chose it completely with a gut-feeling

  • Kylo Ronin

Don’t get me wrong, I really did like the movie but best pic? I don’t think so. Bradley Cooper totally deserves that nomination though cause he puts in 130% in the role.

  • Kylo Ronin

More mainstream from his other stuff but it still retains his signature style. I can see it happening.

  • Kylo Ronin

Speaking of Tom Hardy, right before American Sniper started, I caught a trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road on the big screen. Fuck. Yes.

  • I_am_better

That’s a good point. He rides there where the bad guys are – and then he rides off to the sunset and fades away. WTF?

  • Kylo Ronin

I know. Huge case of blueballs there when I watched it in the theaters.

  • I_am_better

    Keep it that way

  • Kylo Ronin

    David Ayer is underrated.

  • Kylo Ronin

So that’s what Tim was talking about. I could hear a pin drop…………….

  • I_am_better

I almost started laughing because of the silence

  • Kylo Ronin

Galaxy Quest. It’s underrated. Not many folks have talked about it. I mean, you guys, yeah, we talk about it but outside of us? Silence.

  • Kylo Ronin

So would you say Harry Potter is underrated, Scott?

  • Kylo Ronin

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are not underrated but I feel they’re not overrated so just rated fine.

  • Kylo Ronin

Peanut butter is underrated. Just had it last night for the first time in ten years.

  • Kylo Ronin

    Werewolves are underrated.

  • Kylo Ronin

Any guy who slams Michael Moore is already a cool dude in my books.

  • I_am_better

    And Were-Sharks…?

  • Kylo Ronin

Never heard of em. So definitely underrated.

  • Kylo Ronin

Sounds like really good stuff, this Lucifer stuff.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

They’re just terrible. No need to overthink things.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I wouldn’t call it overrated because people like what they like, but yeah, I don’t see the appeal. At all.

  • Kylo Ronin

    I think they’re funny.

  • Kylo Ronin

    Fair enough.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    My condolences.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Major missed opportunity. They could’ve gone all crazy fucking neo-Western with the ending.

  • Kylo Ronin

YOU KNOW THE GUY WHO VOICED ED?!

  • Kylo Ronin

    MY FUCKING CHILDHOOD THERE!

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    “Next 2.”

  • Kylo Ronin

JESUS CHRIST JUST WHEN SHANE COULDN’T BE MORE AWESOME, HE DROPS THAT ON US!

  • I_am_better

    Con Air in Space

  • Kylo Ronin

They never go crazy! It pisses me the fuck off!

  • Kylo Ronin

    GREAT FUCKING PODS.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I don’t think Warner Bros. is going the “kiddie” route. I don’t think we’ll see blood and gore and all that, but if they went for the “R” rating, that wouldn’t surprise me. They haven’t shied away from presenting their characters in a more mature light in the past and I think they’re going to continue with that. Which is good.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I’ve been really goddamn happy with Batman so far.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    “Non Air.”

  • I_am_better

“In space, no one can hear if the bunny gets it”

  • Mr Nick Nightly

His face is fucked up from childhood lupus.

  • RJD

i hope he hunted that lupus character down once he got rich and powerful and got he sweet revenge

  • RJD

every batman animated film > all the live action films

thats why i think batfleck is going to the be best batman yet.

  • RJD

    thank zilla

  • RJD

    i agree completely

  • RJD

    i hope sasha never does

  • RJD

    yeaaaaaaaa

  • RJD

hey even though i didnt laugh at the Bane joke i just wanted to make sure everyone knows

Shinzon = clone Picard from Nemesis

Thanks for the comment o the week Tim aka Wabbit Season

  • Tim R.R. Something

It’s the sudden pin drop silence that really sells it.

  • RJD

if you just mention Nemesis around trek fans you get silence …

  • RJD

if you face book check out brolo nation. it is exactly the opposite of what it sounds like. total geek fest and its like meeting a few thousand new friends

hes buddy and partner steve tibbs will be on the show shortly

  • I_am_better

Truer words have seldom been spoken

  • HEYMYDAVE

Hey RJD, when did Nicholas Cage play Charles Bukowski? Asking for a friend.
