Jack Random does not like Mad Max: Fury Road, the trailer for AMC's "Preacher", Kevin Spacey's finest hour and Konami. #podcast Jack Random’s Ordinary Criminal Podcast

My name is Jack, and I don’t like Fury Road.

(Hi, Jack!)

Instead of “Mad Max Anonymous” I’ve found myself in a den of Max fans, so Kyle and guest Jamill Payne let me have it! After they get done working me over the coals, we get into the trailer for AMC’s Preacher, and inappropriate Halloween costumes! We talk about Ordinary Decent Criminal, Kevin Spacey’s fine crime drama from last century.
We catch up on the actions of our arch enemy, Konami, and we’re confused as ever.

Once again, a stellar show!

Fury Road loses the shock factor second time through, so I don’t know how it’s going to hold up over the years, but first time through I thought it was an insane blast…don’t be shocked if it receives a Best Picture nod.

  • Damn. That Bill Maher-clip was fucking hilarious

  • Well – I guess we all can’t like Mad Max

  • Kyle, I couldn’t agree more. Pure action, pure cinema. I’ve watched it about 10 times already

  • Jack Randomm

    THAT’S awesome.

  • Blade Runner?
Uh-oh – Asi is gonna go into berzerker mode now

  • Jack Randomm

Hahahahaha! I know! I thought about Asi when I said it! It’s gonna be glorious!

  • Christoph Waltz before his newfound fame? I’m kinda interested about this flick now…

  • So the fourth book is a fucking reboot? Well – I’ll forget that then

  • Hell yeah, that closing song gets all my upvotes

  • Jack Randomm

    FEEL THE VIRTUAL WARMTH!

  • Tom Cruise is a great actor, eh.

  • Tarmac492.1

LLoyd Bridges. Dude was great in these comedies.

  • Tarmac492.1

Watch out for those Konami operatives in disguise.

  • Kyle Fulton

To call it a reboot is a bit much, but the last book ended on a positive note, with the main characters reaching an amicable friendship, with Blomqvist facing the possibility of a long term relationship, and Salander finally realizing that there are some people you can trust and whose friendships are worth having. It was a long, well done character arc.on both of their parts. Fourth book opens and suddenly in between books, Salander dropped off the face of the Earth again, abandoned all the character development, and just sort of left Blomqvist’s head spinning. They took a hopeful note of a brilliant girl who had been abused and crushed her whole life finding someone she could trust, and first thing they did in this new sequel was to go “NAH, she fucked right off the minute she felt like it and Blomkvist’s love interest will simply not be mentioned at all.” The guy who they hired to write the novel wanted them to be coming from dark places instead of the positive end point of book 3. He COULD have written a book that took them to that dark place and then told the story he wants to tell in book 5, but instead he just said “Oh, no, offscreen all this bad shit happened, never mind it.” It’s the exact opposite of what one should do when picking up threads dropped by another creator. The story itself is getting better. I just hate the hamfisted, “NO IT’S MY BOOK SO THE CHARACTERS START WHERE I SAY THEY DO” approach.

  • And just yesterday I read that Sony now wants to continue the movie series with the fourth book. The fucking morons.

  • Stalkeye

Personally, I didn’t care for Fury Road. It just didn’t fire on all “Cylinders”.
it was just a post Apocalyptic chase Film sans depth or character development. it’s a mere shadow of The Road Warrior a far superior film that didn’t need all the “Bells n Whistles’ in order to achieve greatness.

  • Stalkeye
  • his finest hour

  • Stalkeye

That, my dear Friend, would go to Collateral.

  • Tarmac492.1

i dont think he can even blame alcohol for that.

  • Tarmac492.1

Also Mr Fox;s finest hour, IMO.

  • Stalkeye

Yeah, that, Ray and to a lesser extent D’jango.

  • Tarmac492.1

He was good in the overlong DJango. What a waste of Goggins.

  • Stalkeye

Goggins had a better part in GIJoe Retaliation than Django Unchained.

  • Kyle Fulton

Let’s hope they every get around to making the second one, first, jesus. The first was phenomenally good. Better than the Swedish version, and that’s saying a LOT. The Swedish versions of the films are stellar.

  • Kyle Fulton

    I. Fucking. LOVE. Collateral.

  • Kyle Fulton

His part is microscopic, don’t get excited. See the flick for its own merits, though! It was pretty good.

  • KilliK

    amen

  • KilliK

well, looks like QT will redeem that with his part in H8.

  • Stalkeye

    “The good Transformers Movie”! Yes!!!!
GIJoe the Movie had its share of flaws but overall, I liked it. Didn’t care much for Cobra La. What Transformers The Movie did for me, was furthered my interest into Metal Music thanks to its excellent soundtrack which I still own. Nothing, I mean, nothing from Bay’s films can top the depth and scope from TTM!

Contra Mobile? I think I already have that on my smartphone but didn’t really care for it.
As for the listener shitting on COD: Advanced Warfare, fuck that shit! The game was solid and the customization features are a plus! I hated the supply box micro-transactions and that’s what brought the game down a notch IMO.
I’m playing black ops 3 and so far its effin good!

  • Stalkeye

    LOL Jack said “Nigger”!

Thank you my Brother! No, not for saying the “N-Word”, but dumping on that stupid term-African-American. I wasn’t born in Fucking Africa! I prefer the term “Black” but some overtly sensitive twats wasn’t happy with that term because of silly preconceived negative connotations associated with it and that’s sad.

Black is Beautiful just like any other Race. *Wink*

LMMFAO@ Guy dressed in blackface with a ho. Fuck Georgia!

I love Bill Maher and that same episode you mentioned also included the pun; “Resident Evil” during his segment of New Rules. Yes, that game that Jackie is scared of playing. 😛

  • Stalkeye

Who dressed as a Klansman??? “Good ol’ Boys”??? *SMH*
    <—Hates Klan and Street Gangbangers.

  • Stalkeye

Jack, I can see you as Nick Fury. Just dump the Glasses, Bro. XD

  • Stalkeye

Getting Discs mailed via Netflix, in this day and age?? LMMFAO Bro, we have to talk..seriously.

  • Stalkeye

Ahhh, You never saw The Road Warrior in its entirety? Do yourself a favor and check it out. But I agree, The Guitar guy was mad cool! Fiora was aight.

  • Stalkeye

Avengers “disappointing”? Gimmie your fucking Geek Card, Jamil!!!

  • Stalkeye
  • Stalkeye

Nothing, absolutely NOTHING tops The Godfather…!
    Well, maybe Goodfellas. 😛

  • Who is she?

  • Goodfellas > Godfather. Both great of course.

  • Stalkeye

Jack, you forgot to mention the two ppl who hated on Fury Road. I’m sure you know of one already. *Wink*

  • Stalkeye

Some random Model that one of my best Friends sent to me via email, of course. (;’ Nice Curves!

  • Stalkeye

Goodfellas is a masterpiece that so deserves a mention especially since its 25 Years old as of this Year. (;’

  • Kyle Fulton

Yeah, I have no idea what the hell is wrong with some people.

  • Jack Randomm

    Lawd!

  • Jack Randomm

Cobra-la pissed me off! Wait…my favorite military action cartoon has fucking ALIENS now?

    Broke my teenage brain!

  • Jack Randomm

Also underrated in the gangster catagory: King of New York and Last Man Standing.

  • Anna Turner

    Thanks for the Shoutout, Jack!!

  • Jack Randomm

I shoulda used your BattleMage handle…

  • Stalkeye

I feel your pain, Jacky!! LOL

As you can see from my Avatar at this time, (Me standing next to Larry Hama.) I’m a HUGE GI Joe enthusiast. They were my Superheroes growing up. (Aside from Captain America and a few others.) But I was heavily disappointed in the animated Movie. It should have been as good as the transformers film but something went wrong.

If it wasn’t Cobra-La, it was the lame “Rawhides” and Falcon’s arc of redemption that is awfully familiar to Hot Rod from Transformers the movie.

Well, at least the opening sequence was the pinnacle of the film. If the rest of the movie was as damn good as the intro, it would have been an instant hit but its ok as it is i guess. /:

  • Stalkeye

    Tell me about it.

  • Jack Randomm

Y’know, I THOUGHT that was Larry! His work was very instrumental in my joining the military.

That and being kicked out of the house, but I digress…

Christopher Priest, comic writer has some great Hama stories from Marvel’s heyday. Priest considers Hama his mentor.

  • Stalkeye

You signed up for the Navy from inspiration from the Joe Comics?
    Now that’s Fucking legit!

It was cool not only meeting Larry, but also getting him to sign the Joe prints from my favorite artist next to Jack Kirby-Michael Golden!!
Mike is an awesome guy and very humble too. Meeting him and Hama was the highlight of the Con. My friend Rich (Buckler) wasn’t as jovial as when I first met him. )0:

  • Stalkeye

Those two were definitely good Gangster Films and overrated too.

  • Tarmac492.1

Godfather I and II might be the best looking films I have ever seen(The Royal Tenenbaums is up there, too). the GF to me are the mythic views of mafia life and at 5 or 6 hours I am never bored. Goodfellas is probably more realistic. All three great films.

  • Tarmac492.1

I love A Bronx Tale, too. Nice to see Bobby D play the straight guy and I think it handled some touchy subjects pretty well. I also enjoyed the Good Shepherd and think Bobby D should direct again.

  • Tarmac492.1

Some white woman reported me to HR because I referred to someone as black. Which they are. She said the proper term in African Amercican. I said this bleached slice of wonder bread doesnt play that game. Sure enough I got a call into HR, who thankfully laughed it off as well. I did get the official slap on the wrist. Whatever!!!!

  • Tarmac492.1

She should make out with a hot white chick in my kitchen.

  • Tarmac492.1

Will take that over Heat anyday. And I love Heat.

  • Tarmac492.1

    He better.

  • Stalkeye

She’s not available for the time being, but I’ll gladly take on the task. (0:<

  • Stalkeye

That’s really fucked up S. Too much Political correctness is what keeps people from being too honest and sincere. As far as I know, there are plenty of blacks who prefer to be called black instead of African american.
I means seriously, would you prefer to be labeled “Irish-American”?

Tell that pandering Twat to shut the fuck up. I bet outside of work, she refer to Black people as Niggers that’s why she’s playing the hollier than thou “White Knight”.

As for Maher, Fuck that shit, he’s funny and I concur with a lot of what he says. He had the balls to call out Muslim culture for the bullshit religion that it is.

  • Stalkeye

    And in other news…

  • Tarmac492.1

Maher calls hims likes he sees them. Yes, those barbarians should be called out. Not excusing anything a pedophile priest does, but i wouldnt mind seeing Hollywood substitute one of those films for a film about the horrors of isis or Muslim Extremist culture. He has also railed against this bs of colleges boycotting anyone from speaking that they dont agree with. THis whole you can say whatever you want as long as you only agree with me is censorship. Cunts. Twats.

AS you know is USA, we are alot of times labeled as “Irish” or Italian. I have no problem with that as it is basically done based on our looks or last names. This doesnt bother me. As we have said, if we could all laugh at ourselves a little bit the world would probably be better off.

  • Son and I went as Batman vs. Superman. He was Batman with some Kryptonite glow sticks to keep me in check.

  • lol Blade Runner is great. Immensely overrated, but great.

  • Once Upon a Time in America is better than The Godfather.

  • OUaTiA has a newer 251 min cut now also (I assume Jamill is talking about the 229 min cut I and most people have seen who love it). I haven’t seen this longer version yet though. Apparently that’s the Blu-ray version to own though (has some much needed color correction and what not).

  • Tom Cruise is a piece of shit, but yup, that mother fucker can act.

  • Now that I’m done listening, serious Halloween/racism question time (see next post).

  • OK, I understand why Blackface is offensive and racist (duh), but when I say Blackface I’m referring purely to the terrible burnt cork/greasepaint/shoe polish look with the exaggerated features that was popularized in the 19th century. That specific shit is still used and downright indefensible unless it’s in some pretty damn distinct context.

However, I don’t see what would be particularly harmful with using more realistic looking methods to darken your skin, such as darker foundation or bronzer makeup, spray on tan stuff, and so on. You know, so it looks more like RDJ in Tropic Thunder than say Mickey Rooney in Babes on Broadway. So long as you’re doing it purely to look more like the person you’re dressing up as, for authenticity as a tribute to the person or character, without any racist connotations, where is the harm? Obviously the harm is that people are interpreting this as being done solely for reasons original Blackface was done, but should they?

Michonne from The Walking Dead is fucking badass. Say I wanted to dress as her for Halloween? If she were white, no one would care I dressed up as a white chick (well, except some crazy feminists maybe), but not only is she a woman, she’s a strong black woman and that’s very important to her character. I don’t see why, in honoring how awesome she is, I can’t realistically darken my skin to make the costume or cosplay performance accurate, hell I already need to put on a wig and fake breasts anyway. That’s part of the fun, being something you’re not and showing appreciation for who you’re roleplaying as.

You have to cover yourself in blue to cosplay as a Na’vi, otherwise it’ll just look stupid. So why not black/brown/whatever for other races of humans? Take out the historical context and there isn’t any difference, but therein lies the problem. I guess as a society we can’t remove historical context from a situation and see it for what it is, such as simply a white guy who fucking loves Blade and did his best to look like the character.

Also, this thought just occurred to me, as President masks are pretty easy to find. Would someone be upset at a white guy going as Obama but instead of “Blackface” he’s just wearing a rubber Obama mask? *shrug*

In conclusion, I’m just a stupid, mostly white guy that really isn’t qualified to speak on this matter at all, nor have I ever dressed up as a black character (though I’d definitely do Spawn if I had the skill/resources to put that badass costume together). I’m also pretty much impossible to offend so my unique personality and don’t give a fuck attitude likely clouds my judgement.

  • Jack Randomm

Black people have dressed up as white and characters since the inception of Halloween, and yet no whiteface. Not only have black people dressed as Disney princesses, maskless heroes like Superman, half mask dudes like Batman or Cap, still no white makeup.

I don’t think a black person has ever even asked if it’s appropriate.

I don’t think changing your skin tone makes your costume any more authentic. I’m pretty sure if you dressed like Michonne, people’d get it without blackface.

  • Jack Randomm

I used to love Golden’s Micronaut work, and used to imitate his style before I discovered Byrne. I liked his GI Joe covers too!

  • Stalkeye

While Byrne is a great artist, it was Golden whose style i preferred overall.

His art practically leaped off the pages! The Avengers annual back in the day really blew me away.

And speaking of “Micronauts”, I need to re-post my article from Talkbacker.
I was a huge collector of those lil’ Fuckers as during my childhood.

  • Very true, very true, and like I said, I totally understand it and it makes sense. Having never really been exposed to any sort of real life racism before I guess it makes it easier for me to think it shouldn’t be that big a deal, but of course it’s not really for me to say how people should think/react, just how I would. Like I’d have no problem with black people wearing white makeup to look like whoever, but I don’t have any baggage or reason not to.

So yeah, annnyywaaayyy, I wouldn’t do it out of respect because I’m not an idiot and I know better, but in an ideal world I guess I’d love to see this (and many, many, many other things) be a non-issue. At least it’s a legitimate concern unlike the nutjobs freaking out over stupid shit like Starbucks cups.

  • Jack Randomm

I think the problem is just the history of blackface. It’s a legacy of ridiculing and degenerating black people, so it’s understandably hard to accept “No, no…this time it’s a tribute!”

I just had a similar discussion with a guy explaining to me that the rebel flag USED TO be a symbol of racism, but not anymore.

That conversation went a bit long.

  • Yeah the flag is supposed to be Southern Pride now or something? lol

I’m gonna fly the Nazi flag for German Pride!
