Zod

A geek from the Midwest. I am about as corn fed American as you get and I love it. The 19 70s is still THE best decade of film- ever. If anyone, like me is inspired by that, you will do fine. Star Wars, Trek, Apes, Buffy, Avengers are on my geek radar among others...

  • Abe

Star Trek comes out swinging and takes the early lead!

  • RJD

Folks – this is Star Bowl. Star Trek vs Star Wars. Vote for who you like best. Not who you think won the debate.

Voting will not be stopped short of the SuperBowl kickoff tomorrow.

May the force live long and prosper

  • Abe

Star Wars is on the board! We might have a game after all.

  • ErnestRister

    * Yoda does not send Luke off to fight Darth Vader, he’s deeply against it and Luke doesn’t listen.
    * We met a Jedi in Star Wars named Obi-Wan Kenobi who explained the key concepts…the Jedi were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. One of them turned evil, aligned with the Empire, and hunted them all down and destroyed them. The Jedi and Vader used “the Force”, an energy field created by all living things, and the Jedi were able to use this energy for good. All of this is expanded on in Empire.
    * Luke had already been training on his own after rudimentary training by Obi-Wan — we see him using the Force at the beginning of Empire to escape the Wampa. Yoda doesn’t want to train Luke, Luke counters that he’s already learned a lot.

  • ErnestRister

You guys are wrong that the Force was explained in The Phantom Menace…the Force was explained in Star Wars. The only reason Lucas created the Midichlorians was to set up the story that Anakin had been created by Palpatine (or Sidious), and when Anakin discovered this, it would lead him to turn to the Dark Side because he was living proof the Dark Side could create and sustain life. Why Lucas decided to only hint at this stuff in Revenge of the Sith, I will NEVER understand. It would have redeemed The Phantom Menace quite a bit. All that midi talk was just a trail of bread crumbs, a set-up for a larger pay off.

  • RJD

    point rister

  • RJD

it would have made sense. Anakin’s heal turn is never believable

  • ErnestRister

Anakin is afraid of losing his wife, finds out his “mystery birth” is because he was created by the Dark Side, and if he turns to the Dark Side, he can keep Padme from death. Simple. I have no idea why Lucas seemed to wimp out on this, other than the howls on the net about the midichlorians in the first place. If he had stayed true to what he was doing, he would have redeemed all that stuff in Phantom Menace. People would go back and watch it and think…”Oh.”

  • Abe

Yoda tells Luke to remember what he’s learned and save you it can. What has he learned? Stretch out with your feelings, don’t trust your eyes, size matters not. The Force and being a Jedi is so vague it allows people to interpret it any way they want.

  • RJD

    thats the brilliance of it.

    kind alike the …

    prime directive

    yyyyyyyyyyooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • ErnestRister

Hell yes you should start with action. Take my word for it — Episode VII is going to start with action.

  • ErnestRister

What is the prophecy? That drove me NUTS that we never even hear what that prophecy is.

  • Abe

    Thank you!

  • RJD

    i cant wait

  • ErnestRister

Or who Sifo-Diyas was…or who Dooku was…Dooku tells Obi-Wan that a Sith Lord was in charge of the Senate, and Obi-Wan just lets that slide…

  • Abe

The Prime Directive is clear: No captain beyond Kirk, Picard, Sisko or Janeway is allowed to interfere with a pre-warp species development.

  • ErnestRister

I’ll take “What does God need with a Starship?” over “I hate the sand” anytime.

  • ErnestRister

When Padme tells Anakin she is deeply in love with him, Anakin looks as surprised as the audience. “When did that happen, because it isn’t in the movie?!?”

  • Abe

There’s something very, very wrong with Padme.

  • ErnestRister

Lucas didn’t know who she was, that’s what’s wrong with her. She’s all over the place. Poor Natalie Portman doesn’t know how to play her, because she’s a different person scene to scene.

  • ErnestRister

Someone impersonating a Jedi orders a Clone army, a plot long in the making apparently…and Yoda goes and takes possession of the Clone Army and…and…wait, what?

  • Conspiracyin559

I just started listening, so this is a prelim observation.

You can’t have a debate on Apples v. Steak
Trek is Science Fiction…Wars is Pure Fantasy, like Lord of the RIng’s in Space.

As for cultural relevance, entertainment value, ability for growth within the two properties…those you can debate.

Now I’m starting the talk…will comment again after.

  • ErnestRister

    Shatner brings the hammer…

  • RJD

the podcast isnt a debate its just a breakdown

YOU choose which you like best ! Apples vs Steak !

  • Abe

In all things Shatner is the final authority.

  • RJD

even though Picard lets those dudes in the volcano die on TNG but then gets all erection in insurrection

i guess he didnt learn about the volcano Kirk 2 froze in class at the academy …

” join star fleet ! go right into the officers ranks ! “

  • Abe

The Prime Directive is evil and it implies there’s, if not a god, some sense to the universe. How things are supposed to play out is the right way. Says who?

  • ErnestRister

Picard admits Star Wars is superior.

  • ErnestRister

Apples you eat for breakfast or anytime you want. Steaks…that’s a special event, usually with family.

  • Captain Genius

    pfbbbt! Steak for breakfest!

  • ErnestRister

Not a real Texas steak! Bigger than some continents!

    http://www.hypocriticalmass.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/africa_steak.jpg

  • ErnestRister
  • Here is the prophecy of Star Wars

    Part 1

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4Qaz2gKptw

  • Part 2

  • If i never saw the original trilogy, maybe i would not dislike the prequels as much. They had some fantastic action, and fun moments, but overall they failed to live up to the originals

  • RJD

    he doesnt like to lose

  • Star Trek TMP is boooooooooring

    Wrath of Khan is EXCELLENT

All the rest can go spit. They suck ass. They have no merit

The Next Gen movies are fucking STUPID. They take everything about the show and the characters and fucking turn it on its head. TNG characters were not action stars , and they try to do that with the movies. And also the Khan remake , after remake , after remake.

The new films are kind of ok, but it has little to do with the spirit of the tv show. Seriously, they did not explain much about Scottys miraculous transporting tech ……. among other shit. Like Kirk should have been shot by star fleet in that first one, instead they made him Captain

  • RJD

yea they forced a bunch of stuff in there . it was bad writing

  • i’ve never watched Deepthroat Nine, Voyager, or Enterprise. and i never will. I haven’t seen Clone Wars , or Rebels, and i never will.

Star Wars 4,5 and 6 beat ALL Star Trek movies and tv shows.

I we are talking just entertainment value, then the prequels beat Star Trek 4,5,and 6 and all TNG movies.

  • Captain Genius

i like a nice new york strip

  • I do think Lucas explained the Jedi to death. And he never explained the Sith.

The whole kiddie training from the prequels ruined Lukes whole training deal in empire. And then they ruin it by having Jedi losing the ability to use the force. WTF

  • I ain’t never read no Star Wars books and i never will

  • I vote STAR !!!

  • Conspiracyin559

I’m firmly in the Star Wars camp…

But I’m having a hard time even comparing the two on any level…

Star Wars, at least in its original form, is all about Myth, and Mystery, and broad universal themes..it allows “Wonder” and is easily understood by everyone from Bangladesh to Burbank.

Trek is 180 degrees from this.

  • Part 3

  • t-bone yes

  • Yoda turned out to be a quitter and a coward. Thanks prequels

  • pure Shat

  • Slothiplicity

Regardless of popular opinion, I think we all know which is superior.

    http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/2c/45/9a/2c459a7e35ab238016d56b24f3cd3d16.jpg

  • This had me laughing out loud

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFCBwob65Nw

  • Abe

Star Trek 6 is the second best Trek film ever!

  • RJD

Your preaching. That’s why Kirk used it when he needed to and forgot it when he had to

  • Captain Genius

The 2 iconic tools of the series are a Lightsaber and a Tricorder. One is used to kill, one is used to explore and learn. One show uses the mind for discovery and diplomacy the other to choke dudes from across the room. Both have a sense of wonder and discovery of the unknown. One likes to blow shit up every few minutes, the other likes to pile on sexy alien ladies cause they couldn’t afford cool explosions. Take your pick.

  • seems Tatiana Maslany landed the role in the stand alone star wars film. Beating out the Mara sisters among others . So i guess she is playing Jenny. The whore who was cut out of episode 4. The mother of that new chick from episode 7.

    Man i can’t wait for Star Trek 3 !!!

    http://static1.squarespace.com/static/53323bb4e4b0cebc6a28ffa2/t/54cbb5ebe4b06f26de5bb8a1/1422636556307/?format=500w

  • Slothiplicity
  • Captain Genius

i want sexy ladies and mind choking explosions

  • Slothiplicity

But 4 is the best Trek movie!

  • Slothiplicity

    So you want JJ Trek?

  • i know i’ve seen it, because i have them all on vhs, but i can’t even remember it

  • Captain Genius

    no. Michael Bay Trek

  • Conspiracyin559

A Bay Trek might be the most amazing thing ever put on screen. There would be massive amounts of Alien Cock teasing and the most explosiony explosions ever put to screen.

  • Slothiplicity

This can’t be true. You mean to tell me you have a VHS copy of Star Trek: Into Darkness?

  • Then why do you explain the universal appeal of Star Trek? Correct your error if you think ST has limited appeal and only to the USA shores.

  • “Star Trek TMP is boooooooooring”

Utterly wrong statement. Unless you suffer from very weak bladder. But one shouldn’t judge a movie by their own medical conditions.

  • I have many reasons to prefer Star Trek, and some of them are more of a personal nature, which are easier and briefer to explain. To wit:

I always knew ST since early childhood when it aired on reruns on TV. SW i only watched it for the first time with ROTJ and only at the very tail end of it’s theatrical run back in the day, almost one full year after it started (movies often stuck on release for a very long time back then, specially the popular ones). And i only got to watch the other earlier two when they came out on VHS, which was very, very late in the 80s. I arrived very late to SW, already a teen nearly adulthood, and the thing was just past my ideal age to get hooked as a fan. Enjoyable movies to watch, but past my perfect age to get me.

Meanwhile, Star Trek showed a type of SF i grew up with and was more in common with the imagined vision of the future was the optimistic depictions of the time projected a future of space exploration and a much better society based on ideals of tolerance and progress.

The epic scale SF movie that truly caught my imagination was Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which i was before any SW movie, even if it was on TV. The imagery of the film is based or quite close to the SF/futuristic speculation i grew up with, and the story about a mystery that only revealed itself layer by layer of discovery into the unknown was utterly absorbing for me. And the ship is totally cool and the music was of the spheres.

  • no just the original movies. The new ones i downloaded for free, and deleted after watching-

  • Not wrong at all . I found it booooooring as fuck, and no matter how much you might love that piece o shit starring a child rapist, i find it booooring as fuck. Its dull, and not at all entertaining . And nothing will ever change my opinion on that movie.

  • Abe

I don’t think I’m preaching. The concept is fundamentally flawed.

  • Kylo Ronin

Nobody listened to me when I said Star Wars was science fantasy.

  • Kylo Ronin

    Wars.

  • Captain Genius

    that’s what i’m saying!

  • Kylo Ronin

I got nothing against Trek at all. I’ve seen it. I’ve enjoyed it. But when I went to live with my aunt and uncle in Kansas as a kid, my uncle had the original trilogy on VHS. My mind was thoroughly blown away………………

  • Kylo Ronin

You say that like it’s a bad thing.

  • Star Trek TMP

Frightfully boring, way too long, and chronically lacking in entertainment. Other than that i guess its pretty good

  • Kylo Ronin

Shit Slate, don’t hold back on us, tell us how you really feel.

  • Kylo Ronin

    Homage, mang…………….

  • Slothiplicity

That’s because we all remember when you said Gravity was science fiction.

  • Kylo Ronin

You would bring that up again.

  • Star Trek : The Motionless Picture

  • Kylo Ronin

I kinda know who Worf is, Zod. Internet is gonna shove it in my face whether I like it or not………

  • Kylo Ronin

    LOL!

  • Slothiplicity

Maybe I’m crazy. I thought it was originally a TV show.

  • Kylo Ronin

Well, Slate, I’d say Firefly but that’s another debate for another time……………………..

  • Slothiplicity

    Bring what up again?

  • Slothiplicity

Firefly was so good it was cancelled after just one short season!

  • Kylo Ronin

And Fox is to blame for the shitty marketing. Show is actually pretty good.

  • Kylo Ronin

Prequels. I’ve been there before and I’m not going there again. No comment.

  • so was Baywatch. And Saved by the bell. And any one episode of those shows are more entertaining than Star Trek The Motion Picture

  • Slothiplicity

I know. I’m just giving you shit.

  • Kylo Ronin

Y’know, there’s like so many great shows that lasted like one season.

  • Slothiplicity

Star Trek TMP is far more entertaining than anything involving lightsabers and ewoks.

  • Kylo Ronin

    Well, you are a slowth……….

  • Slothiplicity

We know. You love them even more than the original trilogy.

  • Kylo Ronin

I haven’t really seen TMP (I keep thinking of the submachine gun) so I can’t comment.

  • Bullshit. : The Motionless Picture is frightfully boring, way too long, and chronically lacking in entertainment

  • Slothiplicity

I think someone should kill David Attenborough for spreading false information.

  • Kylo Ronin

I think the fights are a tad bit better. I still prefer the OT, mang.

  • Kylo Ronin

You have a tendency to blow things out of proportion.

  • Kylo Ronin

I think the man should be knighted for informing the world on slowths.

  • Kylo Ronin

Grandparents, mang. Can’t stand em, can’t live without em.

  • Slothiplicity

Slow paced does not equal boring. And it really isn’t that long (2 hours and 11 minutes). Maybe Transformers is more your style.

  • Slothiplicity

    The fights? Which ones?

  • Kylo Ronin

Empire Strikes Back. I’m gonna admit that I hated it for subjective reasons the first time I watched it.

  • Kylo Ronin

    I’m not getting into this.

  • Slothiplicity

    You’re not getting into what?

  • Kylo Ronin

Course, that meant the movie did its job so effing well.

  • In this case it does. It may be just over 2 hours, but it seemed like 2 days. Meanwhile, movies like The Good The Bad and The Ugly just fly by. Because they are entertaining , and fun to watch

  • Abe

    Anytime!

  • Into Darkness ?? No, its just a shit movie based on a great movie , based on a tv show.

  • Slothiplicity

Debating Ronin is like arguing with a very stupid brick wall.

  • Kylo Ronin

Star Trek V. Is that the one where he meets God?

  • Kylo Ronin

…………………….That was rude. That was uncalled for.

  • RJD

    yes. i mean no.

    IDK.

  • Kylo Ronin

    *brain fart* AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Slothiplicity
  • Slothiplicity

Something like that. Someone thought it would be a good idea to let Shatner direct.

  • Kylo Ronin

The “humor”, special effects, and the screenplay is not his fault. The core concept on the other hand? That’s on him.

  • Slothiplicity

He “Shat” out a shitty movie. Case Closed.

  • RJD

i liked the concept and the orignal budget and story was amazing. but they would never give shat a huge budget

  • Kylo Ronin

Guess I shouldn’t blame Finn for your articles then.

  • Kylo Ronin

    Exactly.

  • The Real Cat Man Do

    this poll is stupid.

    Start Wars! Like my tattoos!

  • Abe

Ouch it’s getting bloody in here.

  • Slothiplicity

I accept full blame for my articles. I always have.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

The Clone Wars series answered all of these questions….

  • Kylo Ronin

I know. Cause when this site started out? You left a comment here saying that you were going to take down everything. Yeah. I remember, mang.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

It was explained the Clone Wars, 6th season!

  • Slothiplicity

You’re speaking gibberish. All my old stuff IS gone.

  • Slothiplicity

You have Star Wars tattoos?! Well, that settles it!

  • Kylo Ronin

    Cause you wanted it gone.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

The Clone Wars explains it…… season 6…

  • Slothiplicity

It was a conscious decision, yes.

  • Abe

Don’t go in for the sex appeal Dr Slothy

  • Abe

20 plus episodes of listening to opinions and staying neutral will do that

  • Slothiplicity

Dr. Slothy is a licensed professional specializing in the kinkier aspects of “love”. But I don’t see what that has to do with Star Wars. Or tattoos. Or polls… Oh, wait…

  • Slothiplicity

    Swiss_Fistcrunch?

  • Abe

Well, Star Wars is pulling away from Trek, but I wouldn’t count Trek out quite yet. Stranger things have happened than Trek making a comeback.

  • Kylo Ronin

    I do like an underdog.

  • Kylo Ronin

It was about time you let loose.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

The prophecy was simple- An imbalance was approaching and Anakin, was created to stop it… thanks to the Jedis ineffective guidance it was tipped in the Siths favor. Guys like Windu did not believe it.
Luke and Anakin restored it in ep 6. Luke redefined everything by using his emotions and attachment. He ignored Ben and Yoda’s advice and chose option C- his own path.

Another hint that Jedi were becoming clueless and close minded- the birth of one strong in the Force, conceived by the midi-chlorians themselves and a vessel of pure Force power who would ultimately bring balance to that mystical energy field through their actions of vanquishing the Sith. The prophecy was not explicit but the Jedi assumed that the Chosen One would be of the Order, due to the prophecy’s being contained within ancient holocrons of the Jedi. But it would later come to pass that Anakin Skywalker would fulfill the prophecy of the Chosen One after 23 years of conspiring with Palpatine to effectively eradicate the Jedi Order in 19 BBY as part of the Great Jedi Purge.

Another, similar prophecy existed among the Celestial group known as The Ones, (CW season 3- the Mortis trilogy) although it instead focused on literal balance in the Force and required that the Chosen One succeed the Father once the latter had become too old to continue restraining the Son and the Daughter, the embodiments of the Dark side of the Force and the Light side of the Force, respectively, as too much of either would spell disastrous consequences for the galaxy at large. Anakin was picked by the Father to fill this role, but he refused. The Son showed Anakin his true fate of going Dark, Anakin did not take it well and the Father removed this from his memories.

Watch the Mortis Trilogy of Season 3 and Yoda on a pilgrimage in season 6. The Clone Wars- thank me later.

  • Abe

I finally let opinions fly. I’ve broken the last seal. It’s time for Willard to awaken from his slumber.

  • Kylo Ronin

God, Padme is inconsistent. Even I’ll admit it.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

Sure it is, he was ruled by fear… and he had no support system in the order, he wins them a war and they shit on him. Of course Palpatine plays on said fears and does it with some truth…

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

    A God… not THE God.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

It has some of the best character moments in the entire series…

  • Abe

    He has show himself!

  • Kylo Ronin

I bingewatched Voyager. But that was during rough times.

  • Kylo Ronin

Of course, my mistake. I know the synopsis, but I haven’t seen the movie.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

Where? Where? On your butt? Please say on your butt!

  • Kylo Ronin

    Well, Shatner knows drama.

  • Abe

    It’s pretty bad.

  • Slothiplicity

She included a picture. The tattoo is on her arm. Unless she has more…

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

    THE WORST TREK MOVIE- EVER.

  • Kylo Ronin

    Worse than STID?

  • Slothiplicity

Why does everyone hate that movie so much? It’s a far better film than Godzilla Vs. Biollante.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

Only Insurrection is the truly bad Trek.

  • Kylo Ronin

That’s it, I’m gonna have to give DS9 a watch.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

The worst Godzilla movie is the one with his fucking kid… bugged eyed little shithead… hate that fucking movie.

  • Abe

Their both so bad for different reasons. I’d actually nominate Nemesis as the worst Trek flick of all time.

  • Kylo Ronin

    *sigh*

  • Kylo Ronin

    LOL!

  • Abe

It starts off a little rough, but when Worf shows and you get to know Weyoun. It’s a great time.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

Yes… thats fair enough, but I’d rather watch Nemesis than Insurrection… ugh. Never again.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

    Amma right?

  • Slothiplicity

I think her kid is in several of them. I could be wrong though. I’m not an expert.

    Is anyone here Japanese?

  • Abe

But just so we’re clear. Nemesis > Phantom Menace.

  • Kylo Ronin

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away…

    Hands down great line.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

    Uh… no…. not even close.

  • Kylo Ronin

    Great line is an UNDERSTATEMENT.

  • Slothiplicity

    Ishtar > Phantom Menace

    Jury Duty > Phantom Menace

Jack and Jill > Phantom Menace

  • Kylo Ronin

Look, I can see why a lot of folks don’t like Minya and that’s their opinion, but I kinda like him.

  • Kylo Ronin

We going by Haruo Nakajima’s word that Godzilla is a chick?

  • Abe

Yes, yes to Dr. Slothy you listen.

  • Slothiplicity

So, technically, it’s historical fiction and therefore doesn’t even belong in this debate.

  • Kylo Ronin

Depends. We talking Showa, Heisei, or Millennium?

  • Kylo Ronin

    SURE. Why not.

  • Kylo Ronin

I have a bad feeling about this.

  • Slothiplicity

Just lump them all together. They’re all Godzilla movies.

  • Slothiplicity

    Just stating the facts, ma’am.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

    See more movies… hardly…

    The HObbits- ass cancer
Pirates of the Caribbean = dog shit
    Jason Borne = Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
    Dr Who = Haha
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles -= suck
    Power rangers = maleria…

  • Kylo Ronin

    Different universes, mang. Specifics.

  • Slothiplicity

Japan. They all take place in Japan. Japan is not in multiple universes, Ronin.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

    No no no… godzillas’ kid…

  • Kylo Ronin

Dr. Who FTW. Jason Bourne FTW.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

He does and he’s won an Emmy too.

  • Kylo Ronin

    That’s country, not universe.

  • Slothiplicity

You have a bad feeling about this meaningless poll? Were you scared by the tattoo downthread?

  • Rare English Rose

I really have to abstain because it would be cruel for me to choose between Luke Skywalker and Chris Pine.

  • Kylo Ronin

    That’s a great line.

  • RJD

    wwwwwwwwwwooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Kylo Ronin

    Hey!

  • Slothiplicity

Yeah. I think Godzilla’s kid is in several Godzilla movies.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

A woman that acts irrational? I’ve never heard of …..wait…

  • ErnestRister

No red-blooded woman would have to choose between 1980 Harrison Ford and 2009 Chris Pine.

  • RJD

    please vote for something

  • Slothiplicity

Countries do not typically go hopping from universe to universe.

  • RJD

    she likes luke

  • Kylo Ronin

    Lightsaber.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

Decker was a Captain Touchy, not Polanski raper.

  • Kylo Ronin

The guy who played Godzilla in like the first movie right up to the 70’s said that he played Godzilla as female. Of course, that’s the actor’s interpretation.

  • Rare English Rose

    Can I vote for both?

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

No way, not boring… one of the best scores in all of science-fiction and some great deep thoughts… a better editor could have tightened it up, but its like a warm bath, comfortable, relaxing and stimulating.

  • Slothiplicity

    Howdy, Rose!

Life is full of tough decisions…

  • Rare English Rose

    Hey! 🙂

  • Slothiplicity

    Did Ford play Luke?

  • Rare English Rose

That’s why they call me Queen Elsa. 😉

  • Kylo Ronin

Alternate continuity. Look, you either mean Minya or Godzilla Jr or Minya from Final Wars. They’re not the same.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

they always have more…. on the BUTT!

  • ErnestRister

    Blecch.

  • RJD

the actor just .. doesnt …sell it

  • Rare English Rose

    Hey Dr!

It sure is. Which did you pick?

  • Kylo Ronin

I really don’t see why not.

  • Slothiplicity

The fact that there’s a kid and that Godzilla seems protective implies a motherly nature. Therefore, female.

  • Rare English Rose

    Perfect!

  • Kylo Ronin

Of course, if I was sixteen. I’d say fuck Wars and Trek. Bring on the Cap Troopers!

  • Slothiplicity

    That’s your opinion…

  • Rare English Rose

    Lol!

  • Kylo Ronin

Man, I was a nihilistic bastard back then.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

DS9 is fantastic! !!!! Love it long time… Odo rocks it and Quark is very funny.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

    Haha. what a horrible alternative.

  • Kylo Ronin

That’s not opinion, that’s a fact. If anything, that’s your opinion that it’s all in the same universe.

  • Rare English Rose

    I like it!

  • Slothiplicity

I went with Trek. As a kid, I loved Star Wars, but as I grew older, it lost its appeal.

  • Captain Genius

    It’s all about the taylor.

  • Kylo Ronin

Way to call me an emotionally stunted manchild.

  • Captain Genius

    Oh, fuck. It is on.

  • Slothiplicity

My opinion is fact. Look it up.

    “A Sloth is never wrong.”

    — Proverbs 26:32

  • Kylo Ronin

Dude, it ain’t worth it. Walk away.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

    I like both actually…so no…

  • Captain Genius

ok. i got other things to do anyway

  • Slothiplicity

I said ME not YOU, Slonin.

  • Kylo Ronin

    The implication is there, mang.

  • Slothiplicity

No. I’m sorry, but the implication is over here.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

Some like science-fiction of a hopeful humanity in the future and others like a different time and place with fantasy, mystery and mystical elements.. two different beats.. and its ok to like both.

  • Rare English Rose

    Cheeky! 😛

  • Rare English Rose

Are you going to check out the new one?

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

Except you, Rose. You are the bees knees. You need to be on the show again soon.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

He wan’t the best… but he was decent…

  • ponyboy_360
  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

If you don’t love Garick by shows end, you need to never mention DS9 again… And what a fantastic finale too… I want some movies with SIsko, Worf… Picard…

  • Down with the hydrocephalic brat, begone with him to the chick flick hell where he belongs!
    Oh, and hi Rose.

  • Conspiracyin559

I can only pray the other is the Death Star…such possibilities.

  • long time no see, how have you been?

  • Rare English Rose

Hi asi! I hope to hear his beautiful singing voice soon!

  • I have been trying to say that for quite a while. It’s one thing to have preferences, it’s another to be able to like both, which really, nothing prevents to do so.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

    Love the ACKBAR!

  • You found it boring. You.
And what child rapist are you talking about??
And again, YOU found it boring. You. But the movie isn’t. A difference there.

  • Whose?

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

    Or two Suns?

  • Rare English Rose

Mr Pine’s in that musical. Think I might have to wait for the DVD though.

  • Conspiracyin559

A girl with the Death Star on the Starfish….
My God…I’d nail cats to crosses to experience that.

  • ponyboy_360

    What up Asi.
    Good to see you.
Big props to your love of listening to film commentaries.
I respect your knowledge, & passion for Refn’s work.
I am a huge commentary buff.
My gif is for the North American sports lovers.
    Have a good weekend bud.
    Peace.

  • Rare English Rose

    So cool!!

  • Thanks, mate.
Are you intended on being around here?

  • ponyboy_360

    Of course.
    Slate is the man.

  • What musical?
Besides, i don’t like musical movies or musicals period much. The only two i truly liked are “Cabaret” and “Across The Universe”.

  • Slothiplicity

The new Star Wars? No. I don’t think so. I gave up on that franchise long ago.

  • Slothiplicity

    The Death Starfish?

  • Rare English Rose

I think it’s called ‘Into the Woods.’ I am not familiar with it. Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep are in it too.

  • Slothiplicity

    She’s actually the cat’s pajamas.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

    Oh my

  • He really is an alright dude. It’s pretty mind boggling for me to think i’m a contributor in a website. And he and his team were the first ever to invite me to join a website, so i’m extremely thankful to them. I just hope they don’t regret the decision later.

  • ponyboy_360

You’re one of the good ones.
    Peace Out.

  • Conspiracyin559

Totally agree. They are going to kick off this film hard. If it were me..I’d try leave a lasting impression to get people invested…something spectacular… just like Star Wars did.

  • ErnestRister

Like, say, a battle in space with a Stormtrooper defecting, escaping his squad, crash landing on Tattooine…then he jumps into frame to reveal himself?

Hmmm…that reminds me of something we’ve seen recently…

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

    this ugly little prick.

  • CreepyThinMan

FUCK BOTH OF THEM!!! I’LL TAKE STARSHIP TROOPERS AND FLESH GORDON ANY FUCKING DAY!!! SPEAKING OF TROOPERS, I ALWAYS THOUGHT VERHOEVEN MISSED A GREAT OPPERTUNITY BY NOT GETTING THE SPICE GIRLS TO DO A COVER VERSION OF THIS SONG, BY HOT GOSSIP, AND A MUSIC VIDEO!!!FACT!!!

    What up Slate.

Have a good Super Bowl weekend man!
    Peace.

  • Abe

Thanks brother. Good luck tonight!! You the north!

  • CreepyThinMan

I HEAR HIS WIFE’S PUSSY SMELLS LIKE TUNA!!!FACT!!!

  • ponyboy_360
  • Slothiplicity

Fuck Yeah! Trek has taken the lead! Take that Luke Cocksmoker!

  • ponyboy_360

    I love “Enter The Void”.
It looks amazing on 70 inches bluray.
It’s a litmus test film I show my friends.
I respect your passion for this film that doesn’t get much love.
I’d like to read your take on this film, as well as other independent gems.
    Blockbusters get enough attention.

  • I_am_better

    I’m drunk.

  • CreepyThinMan

Where have you been Rose?!? We all miss you!!! AND WITH ALL THIS STAR WARS VS. STAR TREK TALK THERE’S JUST TOO MUCH GODDAMN MANLINESS AROUND THESE PARTS AND WE NEED MORE FUCKING ESTROGEN HERE!!!FACT!!!
    http://youtu.be/XgvfOjifZl4

  • There is no contest, Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Picard, Worf etc all wipe their ass with Star Wars.

  • Too late. J/K, love your articles ASi.

  • CreepyThinMan

Here’s a little review for Enter The Void I did for another site!!!FACT!!!
    http://talkbacker.com/movies/enter-the-void-2009/id=2610

  • ponyboy_360

    Nice.
    Thanks man.

  • Abe

    Way to go!

  • Slothiplicity

    Me too!

  • Slothiplicity

The only thing they regret is letting me in!

  • RJD

The champ is on the ropes !

  • Today’s a day I wish I still drank. Have some for me.

  • RJD

    I almost flagged this.

    Almost

  • RJD

HoPe your well. Go raptors. Cept when the hawks r in town

  • ponyboy_360

Gotta feel good with your Hawks having the best record in the entire NBA.
    Peace Dio.

  • RevengeofZodLovesMaude

    Haha.

  • Abe

    Phaser! Come on

  • Kylo Ronin

I’m sorry, I just like to go whoosh whoosh.

  • Abe

    haha fair enough!

  • Dee

Zod was an avid fan of Star Trek till he discovered Star Wars with 5.

  • Kylo Ronin

    Dee! You…look so…..DIFFERENT!

  • Dee

    Die soon and hard!

  • Dee

(Mirror version of “Live Long and Prosper”)

  • Dee

Federico Fellini owned the rights to Flash Gordon.

  • Kylo Ronin

    LOL!

  • Dee

“Dino De Laurentiis originally hoped that Fellini would direct Flash Gordon (1980).”

  • Kylo Ronin

That’s like Kurosawa trying to make a Godzilla movie. Which would have been AWESOME.

  • Dee

    Oh yes!

  • Abe

Hell yes! I now know 100% I’m on the right side.

  • Kylo Ronin

But Toho would never have funded him. Even though his movies were huge hits, he always struggled with funding.

  • Dee

God, the whole talk about “use the dark side of the force, bring the balance to the force, merge dark and light side of the force. etc” makes me sick.
They should have kept it simple!

  • Abe

Wasn’t it a bit too simple?

  • Dee

The simplicity made it work- simplicity has power…. the whole New Age gobble-di-gook of the prequels diluted it.

  • Dee

My point: I loved SW and ST equally as a youngster. I am cynical about both franchises now. Both franchises had the same percentage of awesome and awful movies.
What puts ST over SW in the end?
    1. The series.
    2. Despite the last 4 instalments being bad, the ST formula still has potential. SW has not. SW’s main points of appeal were the innocence and the innovation. Both is gone. How many light sabre duels can you take? A new space opera with a different look should overtake the role of SW.

  • Slothiplicity

    I wish he did too.

  • Slothiplicity

That’s because he spent between 6 months-2 years on a film. Which is forever in the world of Japanese cinema. And he was a perfectionist. His films were very expensive.

He would have wanted Godzilla (and the buildings he destroyed) to be built at actual size.

  • Dee

The word “Jedi” is inspired by the word “jidai-geki” – “period piece movie” in Japanese- the moniker for Samurai movies.

  • Dee

I heard Shatner said he blew half of the budget for the 1st FX shot of ST V.

  • Slothiplicity

Lucas stole all his ideas from Kurosawa and Leone. He is a hack and a fraud. Why do people not see that?

  • Slothiplicity

It was unwise to let him direct.

  • Dee

    “it kicks my backside lightly”.

  • Dee

    Frakes is a A-okay!

  • Dee

In what Mirror universe is Insurrection not a bad film?

  • Dee

    The Phantom Nemesis.

  • Slothiplicity

    He played trombone with Phish.

  • Kylo Ronin

    More bang for your buck.

  • Kylo Ronin

    Eh

  • Dee

What do your words mean, earthling?

  • Slothiplicity

It would have been great but Toho never would have allowed it. You don’t let your award winning directors work on popcorn flicks.

  • Dee

There is so much wrong with Phantom Menace. So much.

  • Slothiplicity

  • Dee

    Not available on my planet.

  • Abe

My only major problem with it is I have no problem with the Ba’ku being kicked off their planet for the good of the Federation.

  • Slothiplicity

Is there anything right with Phantom Menace?

  • Dee

    The midichlorians demystify the force.

  • Dee

    It has some funny aliens.

  • Kylo Ronin

    Decent.

  • Slothiplicity

Demystification is the key to happiness.

  • Kylo Ronin

    Downvote.

  • Dee

    No! We need mystery.

  • Dee

“I said a lot of dumb shit to girls, too”, lol

  • Dee

    “Be bad to me, Padme!”

  • Slothiplicity

Do they have jam bands on Vulcan?

  • Dee

Padme could spank her own ass and say “Bad me! Bad me!” to bring some spice into the bedroom.

  • Slothiplicity

I’d like to do some bad things to Padme. I hear she’s been a naughty girl.

  • Dee

    Vulcan is destroyed! Fuck JJ.

  • Slothiplicity

    Flag!

  • Kylo Ronin

    Shut up Paul Dano!

  • Slothiplicity

I’m not Paul Dano! I’m Bill Murray’s replacement.

  • Dee
  • Dee

What we need is a new Khan.

  • Dee

    jk

  • Slothiplicity

Each film should have a new Khan.

  • Dee

Jaden Smith as Geordie LaForge in the TNG reboot!

  • Slothiplicity
  • Dee

Kirk does not play by the rules either!

  • Dee

How does the damn Death Star even move?

  • Slothiplicity

    … The Force?

  • Dee

Many Bothans died downloading the Death Star Plan torrents!

  • Abe

    Fantasy moved it

  • Dee
  • Slothiplicity
  • Dee

    I voted!

  • Slothiplicity

    Me too!

  • Abe

5 votes separate the two. Exciting

  • Kylo Ronin

    You don’t sound so excited.

  • Dee

    Gives me Pon Farr!

  • Abe

I’m excited! So very, very fucking excited!

  • Kylo Ronin

    LOL!

  • CreepyThinMan
  • RJD

Its a good 2 part episode of tng. It’s not a feature film. It’s cheap. It made good money.

  • Conspiracyin559

Trek is easier for chicks to WhorePlay too…

Almost any chick can pull off a mini dress, fishnets and knee high boots..it takes no dedication..you don’t even have to work out, just conceal it with fabric and a push up bra.

Now if you wanna looks like THIS…this takes fucking dedication…or a whole lotta blow and casual sex. http://i.imgur.com/gUXcf.jpg

    5’1″, 32 DD…enough said.

  • RJD

Unfathomable! Trek storms into the lead as the night comes

  • Abe

“This will be a day long remembered. It has seen the end of Zod; it will soon see the end of the arguement Star Wars is better than Star Trek.

  • Kylo Ronin

Hold up. I’m goin’ get reinforcements.

  • Slothiplicity

Don’t try to buy their votes with promises of reubens. They’ll be sorely disappointed by what you give them.

  • Kylo Ronin

    I didn’t promise them anything.

  • Slothiplicity

I can tell. Trek is now winning by 12.

  • CreepyThinMan

Star Wars and Empire are masterpiece’s but Star Trek gives me more food for my brain!!! Now if the argument was Star Trek vs. Barbarella, I’d have to go with the latter since my dick overrides my intellect at all times!!!FACT!!!

  • I find your lack of faith disturbing

  • YOU did not find it boring. YOU. I speak of Stephen Collins.
And again, YOU did not find it boring. YOU. But the movie IS.

    see what i did there

To each his own i guess.

  • What Star Trek would be like if JarJar Abrams had his way unchallenged.

  • Party time at the Enterprise-D. Shake that head!

  • The coolest people live by night.

  • How can a movie be boring if i don’t find it so? And i’m the guy who nearly fell asleep watching fucking the Bayfuckmers. So no, the fault is not with the movie TMP, but you. You lack a sense of wonder to be enthralled by the visions and sights of the film.

  • who’s J/K?

  • CreepyThinMan

Working on my photoshop skills and I’m looking for some critique! Here is the before and after. I only did this because I like wanking while thinking of having Helena Bonham Carter and Lisa Marie in a threesome and the sight of Tim Burton makes me go limp, so I erased his ass. What do you think?!?FACT!!!

  • More reasons to dislike Pine, to stain a movie with the lovely Blunt with his presence. Now i can’t watch that Blunt movie. Blast him!

  • Your version of the photo is a huge improvement of the original. Now if only those two fine ladies would lesbinate hard, Blue Is The Warmest Colour style, in a movie, that would be the cherry on top.

  • nice. keep up the good work

  • Lesbinate Hard would be a good movie title

  • Words said by Chris Pine about Abrams when asked how he got the role for the Han (ass)Solofication of Kirk.

  • A Die Hard type movie but with lots of hot babes in the action roles, with lots of shooting and hard punching extended bitchfights, and with the action scenes being interspersed with near-hardcore lesbian sex.

  • Hard to disparage that logic.

  • And i’m going to get the sniper rifle to end the reinforcements. Or a RPG.

  • Then it will have to be with promises of sex, then.

  • Abe

    This was very well done.

  • I_am_better

Good debate. I actually voted without listening it. I can’t be around all the time. At least once a year I can live for a bit

  • Dee

This behaviour will not be tolerated!

  • Abe

Both of you on the same weekend? What are the odds?

  • Dee

Well, I can at least attest I had no fun.

  • Dee
  • Dee
  • Abe

    Very fine works.

  • it practically writes itself

  • to each his own i guess. Bayformers gets no love from me. But someone might easily say the fault lies with us for not liking Bayformers as well. Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one, and I don’t care about someone else’s

I understand you like the motionless picture. Thats fine.

I found it to be utterly boring. Slow and dull. And i’m not alone.

  • I_am_better

I’ll quote “22 Jump street”: We are two halves of one brain. We both have half a brain.

Has anyone seen more than 5 min of that film? I always want and sandwich and a nap after cleaning up

  • Slothiplicity

The numbers have changed vastly since last I checked. I think it’s time to throw in the towel. The Fanboys have chosen lightsabers and war over the Enterprise and peaceful exploration. It’s a sad state of affairs, to be sure.

  • good …….. good ……..

  • Dee

    clever!

  • Rare English Rose

Hey Creepy! Hope you are well. 🙂

  • CreepyThinMan

That was really well made! Fucking Marvel had the great idea of doing those “one shot” short films but they were REALLY fucking cheaply made and then they stopped. Usually involving characters we don’t give a fuck about in small environments. This is a FAN FILM and has the sort of production value/style that puts Marvels shit too shame! Don’t they realize that short
movies are a GREAT way of keeping fan interest, developing story/plotlines and
bringing in new characters without having to waste time in the features
introducing them!?! I admire the idea of the MCU but Marvel has done nothing
but scratch the surface of what could be done!!!FACT!!!

  • BWAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!!

  • Booo!!

But it shouldn’t be too surprising. Otherwise would be surprising.

  • No, Nicolas Winding Refn directing. The gore of exploding heads will redefine onscreen graphic ultra-violence.

  • And some assholes have hemorrhoids so their opinions are full of shit.
There is in nobody fault for not enjoying the shit that is Bayfuckmers. In fact, what’s wrong is enjoying that piece of crap. Anybody who does so needs treatment.

  • FINISH HIM!!!!

  • Lack Of Faith = Win

  • CreepyThinMan

A Mortal Kombat version of Star Wars would be FUCKING AWESOME!!!FACT!!!

  • Orcus

Ivy Doomkitty if Orcus is not mistaken

  • I’ve been around, thanks for asking.
And how have been my favorite Disney expert?

  • Vote SW, be a cliche.
Sorry, had to crack that joke, couldn’t resist.

  • Signs of the times.

  • But everybody underestimates the power of the DALEK side.

  • No, i was praising to have lack of faith. To have lack of faith is win.

  • This Pro-Star Trek has arrived a bit too late, i’m affraid.

  • franks_television

Well I think Star Wars is more popular overall so it makes sense. I think the kids are into all that Clone Wars stuff, too.

  • RJD

i think someone posted the link at starwars.com and got ahundred easy votes but hey alls fair i guess …

  • ErnestRister

Life’s busting my balls as always, but I’m still here.

  • not the doctor !!

  • To clarify . I did not post it on starwars, com. But i did tag starwars, starwars, com and the EmpireStrikesBack movie page on facebook , and used the official twitter handle on twitter. Which i have said earlier is a very good marketing ploy.

Example : If you do a show on John Carpenter and post a link on twitter, then use his twitter handle in the the link ( @TheHorrorMaster ) . Then his 61 thousand twitter followers are likely to see it . Same on facebook . Tag @DirectorJohnCarpenter and the 200 000 who like the page could see it.

    etc etc

  • RJD

Im not.complaing or bitching. It was fair and thank you for sharing !

  • i know, just saying . Its good for business to do so

  • “Malcolm Tucker: What’s that film that you love?

Malcolm: The one about the fucking hairdresser, the space hairdresser and the cowboy. The guy, he’s got a tin foil pal and a pedal bin. His father’s a robot and he’s fucking fucked his sister. Lego! They’re all made of fucking lego.
    Ollie: Star Wars?”

    From The Thick Of It.
