2015 is over. There is hoping that 2016 will lead to bigger and better things for all of us. As for last year… It has been a so-so year regarding Hollywood movies, because I can hardly remember a movie that was worth my time. There were definitely TV things that were great this year so at least there was some stuff I enjoyed. Before I start with the good stuff I will go through the so-so and stinker stuff. TV and movie-wise.
Mad Max: Fury Road
Max Max was so-so. Yeah, visually stunning, but movie-wise I found it pretty boring, so sue me. And they got the title wrong. It should have been called Mad Maxine, because Mad Max was definitely not the main character in the movie.
Power: Season 2
A disappointing season 2 of Power. I expected this show to go to greater heights in season 2, but it took a nosedive. And don’t get me started on the cliffhanger.
I had been dying to see this show the first time they announced it. It started out great in the first 2 episodes and then they fucked everything up. I didn’t have anything to do with Krysten Ritter, although I think Dushku should have been Jessica Jones. The writers fucked it up. Thanks to them I don’t need to see Season 2.
The Transporter Refueled
LET ME GET ONE THING STRAIGHT. There is only Transporter and that is Jason Statham. Nobody can replace him. Now when they announced Ed Skrein as The Transporter I was skeptical. If it weren’t for Col Tigh-Fighter telling me to give Ed Skrein a chance I wouldn’t have even watched the movie. So when I finally got my hands on this I was like WTF? Skrein did the best he could, but the movie just sucked. Transporter having a father? I don’t need to see the father of The Transporter in a movie. WHAT IS THIS DISNEY SHIT? 3 women portraying some fake-ass girl power. I DON’T NEED THAT SHIT. The Transporter being saved in his end battle? WHAT IS THAT FUCKING SHIT? Subpar action scenes? WHO DIRECTED THAT FIGHTING SHIT? Need I say more?
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
I started this movie and with a few minutes I just got tired. I was like :”Why am I watching that shit?” The movie just sucked the energy out of me, so I didn’t finish it. And the worst thing is I don’t like Cruise at all.
This movie should have been called GI Joe vs. M.A.S.K. I might have enjoyed it more. The movie started out cool with some nice action scenes, but when the helicopter started fighting cars I was ready to tap out. The Rock sucked and I don’t need to see him in a Fast And The Furious movie anymore. Statham was definitely the highlight of the movie. He was a great bad buy, but couldn’t save the crap the movie turned into. After the super awesome fifth and sixth movie this was a huge letdown. Doesn’t mean I won’t be back for part 8, though. I will still give this movie series a chance because they turned out quite a few entertaining ones.
Avengers: Age of Ultron
I wish I saved myself from watching this movie in the cinema. That money could have been better spent. The too fast, unwatchable actions scenes, the 3D-crap, the useless farm scene, the way too forced one-liners, the Disney moments, the Black Widow crap, the stupid end battle, a joking Ultron, WTF? Etc etc… 2,5 hours of my life gone for this shit. Will I ever watch Infinity War? Probably not. It’s not as if they are gonna get Thanos right.
What a surprise movie this was. I expected utter crap and was pleasantly surprised. I thought Stallone sold out by playing Rocky and participating in this crap. The reality was that it wasn’t crap. It was very enjoyable and Stallone was still the Rocky everyone knows and loves.
Straight Outta Compton
I don’t listen to much rap, but I was definitely interested in this biopic. It was much better than I expected and it was one of the few movies I really enjoyed this year.
What else can I say?
The Man From UNCLE
Talk about a surprise hit. I don’t like politics, I don’t like period pieces and spy stuff I haven’t found interesting for years. This fucking movie just put a big smile on my face and I would never have expected that. This movie showed you can still make enjoyable movies.
Ronda Rousey vs Holly Holm
If there was a real-life Rocky movie this was it. I am not a fan of women’s MMA at all. Women doing Taekwondo, Karate, Judo or BJJ are empowering. Women doing MMA are not. Gutsy sure, empowering not. However, Ronda Rousey became a phenomenon in the MMA. I was not a fan of her, but it can’t be denied she was ratings. When she started getting a big head after dismantling her opponents and acting really immature her time had to come sooner or later. Hardly anyone gave Holly Holm a chance. I know I didn’t give her a chance. But what Holly Holm did was like a movie. She was focused, calm and collected and dismantled Ronda piece by piece. It was especially her focus that was just mesmerizing to watch. When she finally dethroned Ronda I know I had seen a masterpiece of dedication. Ronda had been dethroned by a humble woman who proved all her naysayers wrong. And yes, I was one of those naysayers. The best movie of the year by far.
Ray Donovan: Season 3
My buddy Stalkeye urged me to give Ray Donovan a chance again, after I quit watching Season 1 after it first got released. He was definitely right. It was worth watching again. Ray Donovan is one of the coolest TV- characters ever and one can only imagine the headaches he suffers. Season 3 was utterly amazing and laid the foundation for more headaches for season 4. I can’t wait.
Lucha Underground was the surprise hit of the year for me. It restored my faith in the North-American wrestling scene. For years I have been suffering the subpar product presentation by the WWE. If it weren’t for CM Punk, Sasha Banks, Rusev & Lana and Brock Lesnar I would have seriously quit watching wrestling years ago. But, CM Punk got screwed over and left the WWE, Sasha Banks is not pushed correctly, Rusev & Lana have been neutered and Brock Lesnar only appears from time to time. But something new came around and it was Lucha Underground. In just one season of 40 episodes they introduced more stars than the WWE did in the past 10 years. That was quite the feat and they showed it is possible to make a big amount of stars in a short time. Season 2 of Lucha Underground is coming soon and I can’t wait, because I will see some wrestling again.
Ash vs Evil Dead
If Lucha Underground was the surprise hit in wrestling this year, Ash vs Evil Dead was the surprise hit on TV. I was scared they would really fuck it up, but what they did is kicking serious ass. Bruce Campbell is cool, suave and motherfucking funny. It is as if he had never left. It made me want to watch the movies again. Ash vs Evil Dead is bloody funny, cool and gory. I wonder if some of the new actors knew what they signed up for because they sure are dumped and dirtied up with lots of gory crap. I hope they keep up the quality in Season 2. And if there is one thing that wins my award for funniest scene of the year it’s Ash being thrown against a wall and then falling down in a pool of piss in the toilets. My poor spleen.
Supernatural: Season 11
I might have been complaining about Supernatural here and there and rightfully so. The show was supposed to run for 5 seasons and those five seasons I would put up against any TV show. However, they continued the show and with each season the show’s quality took a nosedive with season 10 being the absolute worst. That was some of the biggest torture seasons I ever saw of any TV show. Yes, Prison Break Season 4- levels of bad or any other TV show- level of bad. But something changed in the season 10 finale. “The Darkness”, the most evil force in the universe, got released. That concept sounded like fun, so it made me curious about season 11. Well, season 11 hit the ball out of the park. 9 episodes in I can safely say this should have been season 6. The writers restored my faith in Supernatural. I never doubted the characters, but I definitely doubted the writers, yet they delivered. If season 11 is the last season, one thing is for sure. Supernatural will finish with a blaze of glory and deservedly so.
Banshee: Season 3
Banshee is the best show on TV right now. Season 3 fired on all cylinders and delivered very compelling television. Great acting, great action and great suspense is what makes this show the bomb.
They set a very high standard for TV shows and I can’t wait for season 4. Unfortunately season 4 will be the last season of this great show. To put some more salt in the wounds season 4 has been postponed until April. I can’t fucking wait to see the conclusion to this TV show and if you are not watching this show you are missing out on something. Don’t let the naysayers tell you the show sucks, because if there is one TV show that definitely doesn’t suck it’s Banshee.
