Robert Ludlum’s prolific world of characters which include Jason Bourne among many, is about to get a new entry. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will slip into the skin of ex-Navy Seal Paul Janson (I think Cruise is also an ex-Navy Seal for the Universal’s The Mummy reboot), in The Janson Directive. This film has been on the burner for a while now, getting some steam in 2011, but we haven’t heard anything about it for some time. Akiva Goldsmith will act as co-writer in what is likely a franchise, in a universe of other characters stitched together. The books which were mentioned are The Parsifal Mosaic, The Sigma Protocol and Covert One. And yes those have all different characters.
Johnson as a former operative who is now a world-famous security consultant. When he takes on a job to rescue a kidnapped Nobel laureate, his life is thrown upside down after the rescue mission goes horribly wrong and he’s charged with the victim’s death.
The Rock’s career seems to be on the pick-up. If his Doc Savage with Shane Black is a success along with The Janson Directive, not to mention anyone of the other throwaway films like Jumanji, he could be headed out of the tier he’s been laying in for a while.
