This will forever be known as the good one. I mean how much worse can it get, right? S. Craig Zahler who’s last outing was Bone Tomahawk has been attached to the remake of Puppet Master over at Di Bonaventura Pictures. The new iteration of the familiar series is going under the name Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich…well, for now at least. That’s until they change everything up and the director leaves for unknown-known reasons. It happens. Move along.

I think I’ve seen one of the films, a lifetime ago. And I can’t be sure I even liked it. Nevertheless it’s time someone made a frightening doll film. The Boy for instance, just didn’t cut it.

  • I’m OK with this being remade. Could only improve it.

“The Boy for instance, just didn’t cut it.

I was good with “The Boy” until shit snacks….[spoiler alert]

came out of the wall. Lauren Cohan was extremely sexy and a film that lovingly lingers over her body can never truly go wrong. The cinematography and directing were solid and they created a decent atmosphere for a Horror flick…especially for this day and age.

“Nevertheless it’s time someone made a frightening doll film.

That’s extraordinarily optimistic…who is this S. Craig Zahler? Is he known for making scary horror movies? Last time I checked Mike Flanagan was the guy coming the closest to actually doing that.

These days…especially with VOD streaming at it’s peak they put out a horror movie every 5 fucking minutes. Creepy kids, killer dogs, contortionist…you name it they’re pumping one out about it .

    I wager…that:

    1) this isn’t even going to register as a remake to most of the young pups watching horror these days as they probably never even seen Puppet Master or if they did they didn’t distinguish it from the 100 other killer doll movies they’ve seen.

    2) Unless this Zahler has some Wan, Flanagan, Derrickson ability to give his work an heir of distinction this is going to slide into the X-box live, Amazon, Hulu horror queue’s “most popular” filtered list at about number 25 without so much as a ripple.

Yeah The Boy was good for a while, then somethings (spoiler) ruined everything. Pity it went to waste. You’re right who is Zahler?, I think I just should have stated we needed something frightening, rather than he was going to actually do anything.

The original was lame. One of those low budget films that tried to trick you into renting it by offering an interesting concept and then filling the majority of the ninety-odd minutes with filler that had nothing at all to do with that concept. I believe there were a ridiculous number of sequels, but I haven’t seen any of them.

  • Toruk_Makto

Decent horror movies are sooooo few and far between these days…it’s crazy. It’s gotta be something like 1/500…maybe more.

Zahler might surprise me…I know Gore Verbinski sure as hell did when The Ring came out.

  • Dee-abolik

    Something like 11 sequels…

  • Sagamanus

    11 sequels huh? Lol. Jesus.

  • Dee-abolik

Wikipedia tells me nine. But Charles Band had a few other puppet- themed horror movies too that spawned sequels.

  • Turd Has Escaped The Gravy

    Good grief!

  • Turd Has Escaped The Gravy

I’m sure a remake of Demonic Toys will be along shortly. And that killer gingerbread man thing with Gary Busey. Okay, that’s not a puppet horror movie, but it’s close.

  • Dee-abolik

The 2nd part was called “Passion of the Crust”. The title might be the best thing about it.

  • KilliK

the 80s Dolls movie was pretty good.

  • Turd Has Escaped The Gravy

Was that a Charles Band production, as well?

Yeah, I liked that one. I wouldn’t mind a remake of that.

  • I_am_better

Will this mark the start of big budget-remakes of all Charles Bands Full Moon films?

  • Tarmac492.1

Love the new title. Bone Tomahawk was, umm, “interesting.”

  • Tarmac492.1

    Trancers?

  • Tarmac492.1

You can screen Bone Tomahawk for free on Prime. Interesting flick. Not a masterpiece, but the guy might have some talent.

  • Tarmac492.1

If so, it proves my mother was wrong when she called them trash!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

  • Tarmac492.1

Stuart Gordon didnt usually disappoint. Loved Castle Freak, as well. No Crampton nudity in that one, though.

  • Tarmac492.1

when the full moon shines over Secaucus, New Jersey, my Piscopo Bobblehead looks demonic.

  • Turd Has Escaped The Gravy

That might work. And there’s about five hundred sequels to that one, too.

  • Turd Has Escaped The Gravy

One person’s trash is another person’s treasure, and Band’s filmography is an embarrassment of riches. Though some might say it’s an embarrassment, period. Not me, though!

  • Turd Has Escaped The Gravy

Loved Robot Jox back in the day. That was then the closest thing we could get to a live-action Transformers movie.

  • Toruk_Makto

I wound up becoming a paying member because I forgot to cancel awhile back. So far the only thing it’s been good for is Banshee.

I’ll check out Bone Tomahawk later this week.

  • Tarmac492.1

agreed. Loved alot of that stuff!!
