Do you prefer your microwave meals reheated? Ghostbusters (2016) TV-spot confirms that it’s going to be a “requel”

The “Requel”, an unholy hybrid of sequel and remake, is the latest moneytake the crown of being the shittiest idea among already increasingly tedious trends like prequels, reboots, sidequels etc. Cases in point: Jurassic World, Star Wars: TFA and probably soon ID4: Resurgence.

There was some speculation if the new Ghostbusters was a reboot, a remake or a sequel but the appearance of a certain iconic character now definitely brands it as requel.

Feig has been the poor man’s Adam McKay so far, now he wanted to prove he can be the poor man’s Ivan Reitman.

Yeah, this looks lame. The original’s greatness came from its smart script and subtle performances by all involved. Melissa McCarthy seems to be equating a high decibel level as humor. “I will kick the unliving crap out of you?” Really??

  • Tarmac492.1

Koepp writing this would have been an upgrade.

  • Dee-abolik

Is this intended to be an insult?

  • Tarmac492.1

    I believe so.

  • Dee-abolik

Yeah I am missing the nerdiness of the originals.

  • Turd Has Escaped The Gravy

I still don’t get what a “requel” is supposed to be. Does this take place in the original continuity or not?

  • Turd Has Escaped The Gravy

    Exactly. Merely shouting isn’t humor.

Is the joke supposed to be that a woman can’t be tough and aggressive, and thus McCarthy’s pluck defies expectations? Really? I think that notion went out with the Stone Age.

  • Dee-abolik

Hm, maybe it’s rather a remake. Eh, whatever.

  • Turd Has Escaped The Gravy

I doubt even the studios, marketing departments and screenwriters know, themselves.

  • Toruk_Makto

    Reeeeeeeeeequel. m-o-o-n…that spells requel.

  • Toruk_Makto

If she did the moon walk…or the Hammer time dance…or one of the many football touchdown struts…it would fit perfectly with the tone of this piece.

What does that say about the piece? Well someone else will have to find out because I won’t be tuning in to watch.

    Agreed.

  • Tarmac492.1

    I would say weakquel.

And the fact that Aykroyd wrote an intelligent script based on his love for the paranormal. I just heard him on Darkness Radio or Coast to Coast AM in the past few months. I think DR.

  • Tarmac492.1

True. Even Weaver’s damsel in distress in the original was a strong, independent woman who took no shit from men.

Stay Puft is a parade balloon that gets possessed. Here’s the toy where he’s listed as a balloon ghost. Whatever.

Still don´t get the drama all over the internet. It´s not like they are rebooting a master piece of art cinema or even a super smart comedy, GB was a funny movie yeah and I had tons of fun watching the cartoons and the movies and playing being a Gb, but honestly, a lot of people of our generation didn´t care about the movie or found it boring. Just because it was part of our pop culture context doesn´t mean is sacred or that special. Old fans never want a reboot of anything but still hapenns, and it will happen forever. I´m happy because there are so many kids now that are going to enter in this fandom by watching this movie, and it´s great because It have the vibe of The Real Ghostbusters.
