i’m looking forward to slutty cosplay chicks dressing up as orcs after this movie comes out…

in other news, Warcraft looks like to be the bomb of the summer. sigh…

  • Turd Has Escaped The Gravy

Or it could be a surprise success.

I think the main problem when it comes to attracting a lot of pre-release hype for this movie, is that most gamers today are too young to remember the original Warcraft strategy games on PC and their associated characters/story-lines. They only know of World of Warcraft. Correct me if I’m wrong.

  • Turd Has Escaped The Gravy

I’m ashamed to say, the orc chick was rather hot. What is it with these bestial females, eh? It must be the fangs.

  • KilliK

it’s not the gamers the problem. it’s the non-gamers. the movie is targeting those as well, and it needs them to become a hit. but so far, there is no interest or positive buzz from the casual audience. hell, even the so called geeks already hate it.

Strong competition from mega-franchises and numerous sequels, poor marketing, the stigma of the poor videogame adaptations, the indifference of the audience towards the fantasy genre unless it’s LOTR, being an original genre movie with a unique premise, etc, all the odds are against the movie.

My only hope is it will repeat what Avatar achieved: the good word of mouth and its rewatchability will help it to have legs and become a success. And I know the movie is great and deserves to be successful, I listened to the leaked global press conference and all the journalists from major media sites who watched it in the private screening, were genuinely excited about it:

It’s the first movie since Avatar, which I want so much to succeed. because it is very important to succeed for multiple reasons. but I am not very optimistic about that. :/

  • Turd Has Escaped The Gravy

How do we know there isn’t any interest from casual audiences? Nobody will know that for sure until its release. In an age of pre-sold franchises, that’s the crux of an original property. And general audience interest in epic fantasy is hotter than ever these days, thanks to TV shows like Game of Thrones and Shanarra, or whatever that thing’s called.

All the same things were said about Avatar before it was released and went on to break records. I doubt Warcraft will do that well, but it might be a good-sized hit regardless. The geek community is just an echo chamber and can’t be trusted. It’s bizarre how the geeks greet everything that doesn’t belong to a very familiar franchise or IP that’s been seen countless times before with such hostility, though. Maybe the studios are right to keep force-feeding them endless shitty reboots and sequels. They don’t seem to want to accept anything else.

  • Sagamanus

    That is so true.

I don’t care. This shit looks fucking awesome!.

I am a notoriously picky bastard and I don’t see anything wrong here. That last scene is what I dream about. Fantasy world characters whose inherent sentience lends them a relatability despite their differences.

The scenery/landscapes in that scene were amazing. I can watch stuff like that all day.

I want this guy working on some proper Dragon-lance movies (Caramon and Raistlin…fuck yeah!) and throw in some Neverwinter Nights for good measure,

  • Toruk_Makto

Fuck those fuckers. DREDD came in under the radar and nobody thought it mean anything…now you can’t go to a DREDD thread without someone screaming sequel!

And with Movies like Deadpool showing studios that once again they don’t know shit from shinola we might just get one.

I’m very optimistic about this one….sending it positive vibes!

    to whomever may be reading…

Okay so I’ve been thinking of an interesting way to contribute to the site for several months now.
I came up with this idea for a cool (I hope) new sketch/doodle series where I bang out a short story panel by panel…in real-time.

I’ll submit the article early Saturday and Saturday evening starting at 8 pm I’ll start the story.
    The subject?
This initial episode will feature a smack down between two super-powered beings.

  • I_am_better

    Sounds cool to me

  • Toruk_Makto

Hopefully it provides at least some entertainment!

  • KilliK

i dont know if it’s worth it. this site is a graveyard. and the web hosting will end in about a year from now.

  • Toruk_Makto

I’ve noticed it’s been a little slow lately but is there something more profound going on, have the crew stated somewhere they are abandoning shop?

  • KilliK

if I am not mistaken, the creator of the site has already left for some time now and passed it to the mods. there was an announcement from the mods about the status of the site a few months ago.

  • Toruk_Makto

I’m guessing that announcement wasn’t a good one.

Oh well, I’m already setup, it’s the least I can do. The show must go on.

  • Toruk_Makto

The eagle has launched! (article submitted)

  • Right on!

  • I’m cautiously pessimistic about this film. And i have a tremendous respect for Duncan’s talent. But at least there will be Mute next, that’s his movie i am most eager to watch.

  • Bring it on.

  • I heard we are going to get a Dredd television show. Which, if you ask me, is an even better proposition.

  • Dee-abolik

Hey Toruk, can you write me a mail how exactly your submitted piece will work? thesupernaughts@gmail.com
    Thank you!

  • Dee-abolik

It’s admittedly pretty slow, I had troubles making time for the site recently. But I just published an X-Men review!

  • Dee-abolik

Sorry I did not notice earlier, I live in a different time zone and I am the only available editor right now.

  • Toruk_Makto

I would’ve…I was supposed to put on the show last night.

  • Toruk_Makto

Nothing fancy this time. At 8pm I was going to start drawing and posting panels (images linked to my s3 account) directly to the disqus thread.

Depending on how well it is/was received I might write a wordpress plugin that would load panels dynamically in the article window as they were uploaded…but that’s another story.

Maybe we can try again next Saturday.

  • Toruk_Makto

That would be better…if done by the right people and network. Who is producing it?

  • Dee-abolik

Yeah, sorry I wasn’t available yesterday. I will write you this week as soon as I know if I can make time, but Staurday should be fine.

  • Toruk_Makto

    Cool.

It can even be posted late Friday. Just wanted people to get a chance to prep their schedules as it’s a live event/interactive affair.

  • The same people behind the movie.

  • Dee-abolik

Both days work for me. Write me when you know which day you prefer and I post a window with an announcement at the front page.

  • As long it happens, it’s alright. I also delay on my recaps.

  • Toruk_Makto
