It has been sadly confirmed that actor Anton Yelchin died at the age of 27 in a car accident today.
Russian-born Yelchin has been active as an TV- and movie- actor from an early age on, imdb-credits reach back as far as to the year 2000, but his breakout role might be that of the abductee in the drama Alpha Dog (2006). In 2009, he could be witnessed playing two high-profile, popculturally significant characters in two controversially received franchise reboots, namely Kyle Reese in Terminator:Salvation and Chekov in Star Trek. History repeated itself when he was cast as the new version of Charlie Brewster in the Fright Night (2011) remake.
Only his Chekov-gig proved to hold some franchise-future for Yelchin, but he could snatch some solid parts in the Jarmusch-directed Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) or as the lead in the Dean Koontz- adaptation Odd Thomas (2013). Just recently he was praised for his performance alongside Imogen Poots and Patrick Stewart in the massively hyped survival thriller Green Room (2015).
