Everybody has their favorite TV shows. I sure have mine. I don’t want to beat a dead horse, but probably since the 2000s TV shows are kicking movies all over the place and twice on Sunday. The most important reason is that the stories are creative and entertaining and that the actors and actresses give it their best. It’s not only the main actors/actresses, who kick ass, but also the supporting actors/actresses. They give life to various characters and some of the performances become memorable or even legendary. I would like to introduce a bunch of characters, whom I really dug throughout the years even before the 2000s. Most of them you will probably know and if you don’t know them, maybe it’s a starting point to binge watch the TV show they appeared in.
23. JR Ewing
Who doesn’t know JR Ewing? To me he is the original multi-layered bad guy. That slimey smile, the cowboy hat and his manipulations made him a household name. He made scheming into an art. The way I see it he set the standard for playing bad guys. You wouldn’t accept less from other actors after Hagman made his impact.I feel sorry for the people in real life who are named Cliff Barnes. I bet they must have heard a million times “idiot Cliff Barnes”.
22. BA Baracus
Mr T made a big impact as B.A. Baracus. He was the coolest guy in the A-Team and he kicked ass. There was just something inherently cool about a guy with kilos of gold and a mohawk. Did I mention he kicked a lot of ass? I have never seen a character like that again in a TV show. B.A. Baracus is one of a kind. I pity the fool who doesn’t know who B.A. is.
21. Miss Selena Coombs
Here I am looking for a photo of Selena Coombs and I mostly see Selena Gomez photos. Fuck you, Selena Gomez. Fuck you for existing and fuck you for being a talentless waste of protoplasm. And fuck you morons, male or female, who post Selena Gomez photos. Don’t you have anything better to do with your lives?
Miss Selena Coombs played the most charismatic, sexy and seductive school teacher ever in American Gothic. Sheriff Lucas Buck used her to manipulate men, but the biggest manipulation she pulled was manipulating me with her voice. Miss Selena Coombs oozed sexy and makes me hate my school life because I never had a sexy school teacher like her.
20. Ari Gold
Entourage gets a bad rep and I can understand why. Most of the characters in the show are utter douchebags, but you don’t watch it for them. You watch it for Ari Gold. Yes, Ari Gold is a douchebag too, but at least he is a funny douchebag. His rants are legendary, his stress is even more legendary and the interaction between him and his wife is just pure comedy gold. One of the funniest characters I ever saw.
19. Clay Burton
I call Clay Burton evil Joey Styles. Clay Burton is the toughest nerd looking guy you will ever see in a TV show. He is the henchman of Kyle Proctor and is a grade-A fighter and killer. When he takes off his glasses you know someone is gonna get fucked up or even killed. Clay Burton came out of nowhere and is already a legendary TV character in my mind. Mang, I love Banshee.
18. Ray Donovan
I gave up on Ray Donovan after season one. He was by far the most interesting character in the show of the same name, but the show got dragged down by the other characters, who bored the shit out of me. To me they were the snoozefest squad. Stalkeye urged me to give season 2 a chance and mang, did it improve. Ray Donovan is badder than ever and totally badass and he gets into shit due to other people being stupid. I did wonder who had bigger migraines. Ray Donovan or Ari Gold? Needless to say Ray Donovan won.
In my eyes the MVP of the whole Spartacus TV show. Seldom did I see a better definition of a hero combined with a charisma, that most pussy Hollywood lotion boys could only dream of. Why is this guy not starring in blockbuster movies?
T-Bag was the nastiest character in Prison Break. Robert Knepper turned it up to 11 and created one of the most intriguing bad guys ever. You could easy believe T-Bag was a super psycho and not a guy to be messed with. You could beat him up, but don’t be surprised if he killed you in your sleep afterwards.
15. Christopher Chance
Christopher Chance of Human Target fame was calm, collected and badass and with a sense of humor too. No mission was too small and he always had faith in a positive outcome. You don’t see heroes like that anymore.
14. Jim Jefferies
Jim Jefferies is the biggest bum and deadbeat I ever saw in TV show and that’s what makes him bloody hilarious. Add to that that he has a very whiney voice and you have comedy gold right there. Legit was cancelled way too soon and it’s a shame. It was a fresh comedy with a hilarious main character, who was an idiot too.
13. Chayton Littlestone
Talk about making an impact. I think every Banshee viewer was impressed immensely when they saw Chayton Littlestone make his debut in Banshee. Now that was a menacing “bad guy”. The guy was massive, strong, didn’t like the police very much and had this chilling deep voice. He was fighting for a cause he believed in and was willing to cross the line. Lucas Hood has his hands full with Chayton. Geno Segers was memorable in Banshee and here is to hoping Geno Segers gets more great roles to play.
12. Gemma Morrow
Peggy who? Gemma Fucking Morrow, that’s who. She was evil, manipulative, a liar and all-around piece of shit woman. She never played open card and caused the Sons a lot of trouble and some deaths too. Katey Sagal reinvented herself with this role. If you see the Sons Of Anarchy you will never think of her as Peggy Bundy again.
11. Lucas Buck
Sheriff Lucas Buck of American Gothic was a real piece of work. It was sure he was not a human and he definitely didn’t behave like a human. He had some supernatural powers and manipulated and punished people who were not on his side. But you could do nothing more than like him because he was one charismatic bad guy.
10. Jim Profit
Jim Profit was such an evil motherfucker in 1996, that the show got cancelled after a few episodes. The TV viewing world was not ready for Profit. He was way ahead of his time. He was one nasty sociopath who turned manipulation into an art form.
Illythia was the female MVP of Spartacus. Beautiful, manipulative and plain nasty are words that describe her. Spartacus would have been much less interesting had Illythia not been there. She was the woman you love to hate, but you could do nothing more than be mesmerized by her behavior and beauty.
8. Lucas Hood
What happens when you have a criminal, who wants to do some good, but by his own rules? You get Lucas Hood. Lucas Hood from Banshee fame has been a revelation. He fights the good fight, but also doesn’t mind to make some bucks on the side.
7. Rust Cohle
Another revelation. I never liked Matthew McConaughey’s work, but his Rust Cohle character in the first season of True Detective made me a believer. What do you mean you haven’t seen the first season of True Detective? Get on it, right now, and witness the marvel that is Rust Cohle. And while you are at it don’t be scared of Alexandra Daddario. Those are real.
6. Jax Teller
Jax Teller was a compelling character, who wanted to do good, but in the end turned out to be everything that he had been fighting against. His descent into darkness was a work of art. Couple that with his cunning behavior and you have one of the most compelling characters you have ever seen on a TV screen. Sons Of Anarchy gets a lot of crap and undeservedly so. It’s one of the greatest TV shows ever created.
5. Dean Winchester
Supernatural gets a lot of crap. The common thinking is that it’s a show about 2 lotion boys fighting demons and stuff and that it is a show for girls. Well, that’s a shame, because it isn’t that kind of show and people are missing out on one of the greatest TV characters ever, called Dean Winchester. He is often reckless, sometimes a tactician, loves women, loves burgers, loves his Impala 1967, loves rock music and no matter how bad things get he will go down swinging. I will put up the first 5 seasons of Supernatural against any other show. The last 5 seasons not so much, but still, Dean Winchester remains one of the greatest characters to ever grace a TV screen.
4. Agent June Stahl
Agent June Stahl. Need I say more? The baddest bitch I ever saw in a TV show. This woman made nasty into an artform. When she took on the Sons Of Anarchy you wouldn’t give her a chance, but mang, did she deliver. When I saw Ally Walker appear in Sons Of Anarchy I thought she was gonna suck, because I never liked her as an actress. She won me over and then some. Ally Walker played the role of her life and I am glad I witnessed it. Gimme the Agent Stahl spin-off right now. It’s money.
3. Vic Mackey
Vic Mackey. If that name doesn’t ring a bell you are missing out on something. The Shield reinvented television when it was airing. Vic Mackey was a totally different cop. He was a liar, a manipulator, a master tactician and a badass keeping the streets safe while not minding to make a buck himself and getting himself and his team in various messes. Nobody says “Shit” better than Vic Mackey and nobody will ever play are cooler and more charismatic cop.
2. Emma Peel
Enough has been said and written about Emma Peel. She is the godmother of REAL girl power. Emma Peel had it all. She was sophisticated, sexy, could fight and oozed class. Her character should be a role model for women and not scum like the Kardashians, Hilton, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus and similar scum.
Death from Supernatural fame is by far the coolest TV character I ever saw. Julian Richings oozes death in his role. When you see him appear for the first time you know he is a motherfucker you don’t want to mess with. You just feel the eerieness and you can feel he is not human. And when Death talks to you, you listen and pay attention. You don’t want to piss Death off. I bet Julian Richings thought that it was just another job to play Death, but he plays the role of his life and is by far the most popular character in Supernatural. That in itself is amazing, because he only appeared a few times.
Who are your most memorable TV characters? Let me know.
