Everybody has their favorite TV shows. I sure have mine. I don’t want to beat a dead horse, but probably since the 2000s TV shows are kicking movies all over the place and twice on Sunday. The most important reason is that the stories are creative and entertaining and that the actors and actresses give it their best. It’s not only the main actors/actresses, who kick ass, but also the supporting actors/actresses. They give life to various characters and some of the performances become memorable or even legendary. I would like to introduce a bunch of characters, whom I really dug throughout the years even before the 2000s. Most of them you will probably know and if you don’t know them, maybe it’s a starting point to binge watch the TV show they appeared in.

23. JR Ewing

This 1981 file photo provided by CBS shows Larry Hagman in character as J.R. Ewing in the television series "Dallas." Actor Larry Hagman, who for more than a decade played villainous patriarch JR Ewing in the TV soap Dallas, has died at the age of 81, his family said Saturday Nov. 24, 2012. (AP Photo/CBS, file)

Who doesn’t know JR Ewing? To me he is the original multi-layered bad guy. That slimey smile, the cowboy hat and his manipulations made him a household name. He made scheming into an art. The way I see it he set the standard for playing bad guys. You wouldn’t accept less from other actors after Hagman made his impact.I feel sorry for the people in real life who are named Cliff Barnes. I bet they must have heard a million times “idiot Cliff Barnes”.

22. BA Baracus

B.A_Baracus

Mr T made a big impact as B.A. Baracus. He was the coolest guy in the A-Team and he kicked ass. There was just something inherently cool about a guy with kilos of gold and a mohawk. Did I mention he kicked a lot of ass? I have never seen a character like that again in a TV show. B.A. Baracus is one of a kind. I pity the fool who doesn’t know who B.A. is.

21. Miss Selena Coombs

*Rant on*

Here I am looking for a photo of Selena Coombs and I mostly see Selena Gomez photos. Fuck you, Selena Gomez. Fuck you for existing and fuck you for being a talentless waste of protoplasm. And fuck you morons, male or female, who post Selena Gomez photos.  Don’t you have anything better to do with your lives?

*Rant off*

selena coombs

Miss Selena Coombs played the most charismatic, sexy and seductive school teacher ever in American Gothic. Sheriff Lucas Buck used her to manipulate men, but the biggest manipulation she pulled was manipulating me with her voice. Miss Selena Coombs oozed sexy and makes me hate my school life because I never had a sexy school teacher like her.

20. Ari Gold

Ari-Gold-shouting

Entourage gets a bad rep and I can understand why. Most of the characters in the show are utter douchebags, but you don’t watch it for them. You watch it for Ari Gold. Yes, Ari Gold is a douchebag too, but at least he is a funny douchebag. His rants are legendary, his stress is even more legendary and the interaction between him and his wife is just pure comedy gold. One of the funniest characters I ever saw.

19. Clay Burton

clay burton

I call Clay Burton evil Joey Styles. Clay Burton is the toughest nerd looking guy you will ever see in a TV show. He is the henchman of Kyle Proctor and is a grade-A fighter and killer. When he takes off his glasses you know someone is gonna get fucked up or even killed. Clay Burton came out of nowhere and is already a legendary TV character in my mind. Mang, I love Banshee.

18. Ray Donovan

RAY DONOVAN

I gave up on Ray Donovan after season one. He was by far the most interesting character in the show of the same name, but the show got dragged down by the other characters, who bored the shit out of me. To me they were the snoozefest squad. Stalkeye urged me to give season 2 a chance and mang, did it improve. Ray Donovan is badder than ever and totally badass and he gets into shit due to other people being stupid. I did wonder who had bigger migraines. Ray Donovan or Ari Gold? Needless to say Ray Donovan won.

17. Gannicus

Gannicus

In my eyes the MVP of the whole Spartacus TV show. Seldom did I see a better definition of a hero combined with a charisma, that most pussy Hollywood lotion boys could only dream of.  Why is this guy not starring in blockbuster movies?

16. T-Bag

t-bag

T-Bag was the nastiest character in Prison Break. Robert Knepper turned it up to 11 and created one of the most intriguing bad guys ever. You could easy believe T-Bag was a super psycho and not a guy to be messed with. You could beat him up, but don’t be surprised if he killed you in your sleep afterwards.

15. Christopher Chance

chance

Christopher Chance of Human Target fame was calm, collected and badass and with a sense of humor too. No mission was too small and he always had faith in a positive outcome. You don’t see heroes like that anymore.

14. Jim Jefferies

jimjeff

Jim Jefferies is the biggest bum and deadbeat I ever saw in TV show and that’s what makes him bloody hilarious. Add to that that he has a very whiney voice and you have comedy gold right there. Legit was cancelled way too soon and it’s a shame. It was a fresh comedy with a hilarious main character, who was an idiot too.

13. Chayton Littlestone

chayton

Talk about making an impact. I think every Banshee viewer was impressed immensely when they saw Chayton Littlestone make his debut in Banshee. Now that was a menacing “bad guy”. The guy was massive, strong, didn’t like the police very much and had this chilling deep voice. He was fighting for a cause he believed in and was willing to cross the line. Lucas Hood has his hands full with Chayton. Geno Segers was memorable in Banshee and here is to hoping Geno Segers gets more great roles to play.

12. Gemma Morrow

Katey Sagal as Gemma Teller Morrow in Sons of Anarachy on FX.

Peggy who? Gemma Fucking Morrow, that’s who. She was evil, manipulative, a liar and all-around piece of shit woman. She never played open card and caused the Sons a lot of trouble and some deaths too. Katey Sagal reinvented herself with this role. If you see the Sons Of Anarchy you will never think of her as Peggy Bundy again.

11. Lucas Buck

lucas

Sheriff Lucas Buck of American Gothic was a real piece of work. It was sure he was not a human and he definitely didn’t behave like a human. He had some supernatural powers and manipulated and punished people who were not on his side. But you could do nothing more than like him because he was one charismatic bad guy.

10. Jim Profit

jim profit

Jim Profit was such an evil motherfucker in 1996, that the show got cancelled after a few episodes. The TV viewing world was not ready for Profit. He was way ahead of his time. He was one nasty sociopath who turned manipulation into an art form.

9. Illythia

illythia

Illythia was the female MVP of Spartacus. Beautiful, manipulative and plain nasty are words that describe her. Spartacus would have been much less interesting had Illythia not been there. She was the woman you love to hate, but you could do nothing more than be mesmerized by her behavior and beauty.

8. Lucas Hood

Lucas Hood

What happens when you have a criminal, who wants to do some good, but by his own rules? You get Lucas Hood. Lucas Hood from Banshee fame has been a revelation. He fights the good fight, but also doesn’t mind to make some bucks on the side.

7. Rust Cohle

rust cohle

Another revelation. I never liked Matthew McConaughey’s work, but his Rust Cohle character in the first season of True Detective made me a believer. What do you mean you haven’t seen the first season of True Detective? Get on it, right now, and witness the marvel that is Rust Cohle. And while you are at it don’t be scared of Alexandra Daddario. Those are real.

6. Jax Teller

jax teller

Jax Teller was a compelling character, who wanted to do good, but in the end turned out to be everything that he had been fighting against. His descent into darkness was a work of art.  Couple that with his cunning behavior and you have one of the most compelling characters you have ever seen on a TV screen. Sons Of Anarchy gets a lot of crap and undeservedly so. It’s one of the greatest TV shows ever created.

5. Dean Winchester

dean

Supernatural gets a lot of crap. The common thinking is that it’s a show about 2 lotion boys fighting demons and stuff and that it is a show for girls. Well, that’s a shame, because it isn’t that kind of  show and people are missing out on one of the greatest TV characters ever, called Dean Winchester. He is often reckless, sometimes a tactician, loves women, loves burgers, loves his Impala 1967, loves rock music and no matter how bad things get he will go down swinging. I will put up the first 5 seasons of Supernatural against any other show. The last 5 seasons not so much, but still, Dean Winchester remains one of the greatest characters to ever grace a TV screen.

4. Agent June Stahl

SONS OF ANARCHY: Ally Walker in SONS OF ANARCHY airing Tuesday, Oct. 5. at 10 PM e/p on FX. CR: Prashant Gupta / FX.

Agent June Stahl. Need I say more? The baddest bitch I ever saw in a TV show. This woman made nasty into an artform. When she took on the Sons Of Anarchy you wouldn’t give her a chance, but mang, did she deliver. When I saw Ally Walker appear in Sons Of Anarchy I thought she was gonna suck, because I never liked her as an actress. She won me over and then some. Ally Walker played the role of her life and I am glad I witnessed it. Gimme the Agent Stahl spin-off right now. It’s money.

3. Vic Mackey

Vic

Vic Mackey. If that name doesn’t ring a bell you are missing out on something. The Shield reinvented television when it was airing. Vic Mackey was a totally different cop. He was a liar, a manipulator, a master tactician and a badass keeping the streets safe while not minding to make a buck himself and getting himself and his team in various messes. Nobody says “Shit” better than Vic Mackey and nobody will ever play are cooler and more charismatic cop.

2. Emma Peel

emma peel

Enough has been said and written about Emma Peel. She is the godmother of REAL girl power. Emma Peel had it all. She was sophisticated, sexy, could fight and oozed class. Her character should be a role model for women and not scum like the Kardashians, Hilton, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus and similar scum.

1. Death

death

Death from Supernatural fame is by far the coolest TV character I ever saw. Julian Richings oozes death in his role. When you see him appear for the first time you know he is a motherfucker you don’t want to mess with. You just feel the eerieness and you can feel he is not human. And when Death talks to you, you listen and pay attention. You don’t want to piss Death off. I bet Julian Richings thought that it was just another job to play Death, but he plays the role of his life and is by far the most popular character in Supernatural. That in itself is amazing, because he only appeared a few times.

Who are your most memorable TV characters? Let me know.

Bop

Bop loves all things creative and inspirational. He is a producer in the making, an athlete, a language expert, an action movie aficionado, an advocate of real girl power, and definitely a snarky smark. He might even surprise you with a thing or 2 about movies and TV.

  • Haha, I played a little guessing game with this and figured out 12 before reading. To be fair, I could have got more if I’d seen American Gothic and started Banshee (I knew you loved both). I think I know your tastes well. =)

  • Bop

Ha, ha. That’s why I made 23 otherwise it would have been too predictable.
I wonder how many the others guessed. 🙂

  • General Cornhole Jackson

Cant wait for the final season of Banshee

  • Gannicus was definitely my favorite on Spartacus of the “good guys.” Illythia is a great TV baddy for sure too. Some really fucked up stuff.

  • Bop

Did you manage to watch it all, Dan? 😀

  • Bop

Neither can I. It’s definitely my most anticipated TV show at the moment.

  • CoolHandJuke

No Al Bundy? I guess it’s fitting in a way…

  • gorgarwilleatyou1

Nice surprise to see Emma Peel but where was The Shat!

  • KilliK

I disagree, Peggy Bundy was a more evil bitch than Gemma Morrow. Ask Al, he knows.

  • Bop

In my whole life I might have seen 2 episodes of Star Trek. Never liked it.

  • Picard is better anyway.

    http://i.imgur.com/kH9i7h2.gif

  • Bop

    LOL.

  • Tarmac492.1

    American Gothic. Nice.

  • Tarmac492.1

Ummm Emma Peel. Umm, I gotta go.

  • Tarmac492.1

No Mr. Woodman from Welcome Back Kotter?

  • Tarmac492.1

Mackey might be my number 1. Either him or Dr. Bombay.

  • Tarmac492.1

    Killer List, Bop!!!

  • Tarmac492.1

Bop, did you watch Justified? No Boyd Crowder, Raylan Givens?

  • Tarmac492.1

That cunt Agent Stahl just looks like a serpent. You half expected her leave a slime trail every time she slithered in and out of a room.

  • Tarmac492.1

He was just on Stern. A really interesting interview.

  • gorgarwilleatyou1

I’ll take a smirk and a phaser any day!

  • Stalkeye

    Bop in da Heezy!

This was an impressive list, Bro-Meng!

I’m glad you decided to give Ray Donovan another chance. The series deserves it’s cult following and Ray is my favorite TV badass since Vic Mackey and Jax Teller.

    Here’s some of my Picks

    CAROL

    GHOST & TOMMY

  • Stalkeye

Mackey is definitely number 1 to me.

  • Stalkeye

    LOL

  • Tarmac492.1

    No Harry Knowles?

  • Bop

The first 2 seem from TWD (which I don’t watch. I am allergic to zombies)

Ghost and Tommy are ok. I still think Ghost can be written a bit better.

  • Bop

    Ha, ha.

  • Bop

I tried the first few episodes of Justified. I couldn’t get into it, but from what I understood it became better and better. Maybe I should give it a try again, because I think Timothy Olyphant is übercool and Goggins always delivers.

  • Bop

    Thanks, mang.

  • Tarmac492.1

Def give it a shot. I think it is right in your wheelhouse.

  • Bop

    Never heard of Dr Bombay.

  • Stalkeye

I call Bullshit! Kirk not only was a playa who got more Ass than the Enterprise’s Toilet seat, but he can land a mean drop kick!

Let’s see Baldy, try that! 😛

  • Bop

Don’t know Welcome Back Kotter either.

  • Stalkeye

    XD

  • Tarmac492.1

Him and Dr. Bombay are just jokes. They are minor characters from this and Bewitched, respectively. I tend to like the grumps(Woodman) or the borderline insane(Dr, Bombay)

  • Tarmac492.1

One of the all time great tv characters.

  • gorgarwilleatyou1

what the hell was that last one, I’m gonna take you out with my ASS!

  • Stalkeye

    XD
    I know, right?

  • Stalkeye

Chiklis, fucking killed! Especially during the last episode.
    “Ronnie….I have a Family….” Ouch!
And that last scene was ambiguous that still have Fans and viewers scratching their Domes.

  • Bop

Oh, definitely. And to think I almost missed this show because I started watching somewhere in the middle and thought:” Who is this bald tough guy wannabe?” Then someone told me to watch it from the beginning to know where he is coming from.
Well, I kept watching and watching.

  • Bop

I do think the selling out of Ronnie was a bit un-Viclike.
All those seasons he did his best to keep them all safe.

And did Sutter ever say Mackey was in SoA or not?

  • Stalkeye

Definitely Carol from TWD. She started off as an abused Wife to a Cold blooded Killer. “Just, look at the Flowers..”

Ghost isn’t your run of he mill Gangster -he goes out on a limb to handle dirty situations on his own and what makes him interesting is that he is often one step ahead of his enemies. Very calculating Mofo, but that scene with Fiddy near the end was silly!!

  • Bop

He is not a character. He is a caricature.

  • Stalkeye

It didn’t really surprise me, as Vic would go through great lengths to protect his family even to the extent of ratting out his partners. (Which he had no choice in his mind.)
Kurt has been very coy about Chiklis’ role in SOA but he left it to one’s interpretation. It would be more cathartic if it were true since Both series are not necessarily self contained.

  • Bop

Maybe I should give it a try again. Just like Ray Donovan.
Aw, fuck it. Grabbing 6 right now.

  • Bop

Kirk doing a dropkick. Now I have seen it all.

  • gorgarwilleatyou1

Just wait season 3 is around the corner!

  • Bop

Well, I will just pretend it was Mackey. 🙂

  • Stalkeye

    Yup.

  • Carol and Michonne basically carry the show, along with a few other characters. The story has been shit for awhile now, but at least a handful of characters are great and well written. Can’t say the spinoff looks to be following that trend based on the first episode. Ick.

  • Ohhh yeahhh, J.R. Ewing, Lucas Buck & T-Bag. That’s like a Top three villains right there 🙂

  • LOL

  • Stalkeye
  • Stalkeye

The Spinoff is Shit on a Stick, so far.

  • What’s the KS goal this time? $500.000?

  • Digging for Zissou

    Leon from Curb

  • Digging for Zissou

Mr. Herkabe from Malcolm in the Middle

  • Digging for Zissou

    Lucille Bluth

  • Digging for Zissou

    Jeffrey Weinerslav

  • Stalkeye

I would also go with Shane Vandrell played so brilliant by Walton Goggins.

(Redneck Racist Asshole who pulled a few Mindfucks during the last three seasons.)

    http://static.tvgcdn.net/MediaBin/Galleries/Shows/S_Z/Sa_Sh/Shield/season6/shield-goggins25.jpg

And speaking of “Rednecks”, the Dixon bros help make TWD series interesting.

Merle was a prick but redeemed himself in the end while Daryl is a Badass!

(Not sure why he never Banged Carol, unless he’s holding out for a better deal.)

  • Digging for Zissou

Did anyone watch Whit Stillman’s Amazon pilot? Was that any good?

  • Digging for Zissou

Bruce Campbell on Hercules or Xena or whichever one that was.

  • Both

  • I did, yes. Great show. Fantastic ending.

  • Digging for Zissou

Haha I cannot differentiate between them in my memory.

  • Bop

    Shane was definitely an RRA.

Bro, today I started watching Straight Outta Compton. Seems the LAPD is a RRA office too.

  • Bop

Shit. I forgot Sonny Crockett. And now that I am thinking I forgot Stingray too. Damnit.

  • Bop

Awesome. 😀 Now I don’t have to use my running joke anymore. 🙂

  • Stalkeye
  • Bop

    That was a fun character.

  • Stalkeye

Those Pigs were nothing but Cunts themselves, what’s sad is that those Dumbass Gangbangers are quick to kill their own and especially innocent bystanders but not corrupt Police Officers. Go Figure.

  • Stalkeye
  • Bop

You got me there. Now that is a logic I never understood.

  • Jen B&T’s girl

Loved reading that Pob…..nearly a perfect list 😉

  • Bop

    You know all the characters?
Who is missing according to you?

  • Jen B&T’s girl

I do…:) erm….well helen mirren in prime suspect i dug, don’t laugh but horatio caine was slick, aaaaaand who can forget kojak :D…..no laughing

  • Bop

I never saw Prime Suspect. I didn’t follow CSI Miami all the time, but I agree on Horatio Caine. He was a cool character.
Ok, about Kojak I have to laugh a bit. 😀 So unexpected. 🙂

  • Jen B&T’s girl

u just threw him in for a giggle and a lollipop :p

  • Stalkeye
  • Bop

Why are you not on the other side? 🙂

  • Jen B&T’s girl

    gosh that sounds ominous..O.O

  • Bop

See you on the other side. 🙂

  • Jen B&T’s girl

    🙂

  • Jess

awesome. freakin tough category….too much to choose from.

  • Bop

Oh, there is more characters, but I had to make a choice.

  • Jess

yeah so many. in different genres too….no way to narrow down.

  • Tarmac492.1

    LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Tarmac492.1

He has a pilot? What is it? I will watch this week.

  • Tarmac492.1

Goggins was awesome in two awesome FX shows. Mofo owns that station. Plus, his stint on SONS. Goggins. That. Is. All.

  • Tarmac492.1

The Cosmopolitans? I will check it out. It would be great if these streaming content providers decided to embrace these indie auteurs. However, as they say, it will be the free market that decides the show’s fate.

  • Stalkeye

    LMAO@Venus.

  • Tarmac492.1

When Will They SHoot. Love that Ice Cube song. Lots of great lines in that one. Manages to have that gangsta tough pose, yet be realistic in other parts. He was angry Ice Cube then calling whitey “Devil”. Now he is mansion to mansion with them. LOL!!! Gotta love this mofo country. When will we get our turn, Stalks!!!!

  • Tarmac492.1

LAPD had a rough time in the early 90’s. Like, a really rough time.

    Agent Cooper
    Denny Crane
    The Addams family
Some of the Star Trek cast
    Frank Drebin

  • Toruk_Makto

I think what this shows is that there is just way too much good TV out there. I recognized about only 10% of the shows/characters on this list. Though I admit I’ve grown ridiculously selective about what I watch these days, I just don’t have much free time.

As for characters, just too many for me. couldn’t do it. I’d be listing characters in shows starting back to the eighties to now like Col. Steve Austin, Fred G. Sanford, George Jefferson, James ‘J.J.’ Evans, Jr, Arthur ‘Fonzie’ Fonzarelli, Alex P Keating, Laverne Defazio, Shirley Feeny, Lenny & Squiggy, Freddie ‘Rerun’ Stubbs, Dan the man Fielding, Carla Tortelli, Cliff Clavin, Woody, Dr. Jonathan Chase (Manimal), Howling Mad Murdock, Data, Worf, Luke Duke, Bo Duke, Daisy Duke, Detectives Ken Hutchinson & Dave Starsky, ALF, Michael Knight, Sgts. Rick Hunter & Dee Dee McCall, Dee, Captain Jean Luke Picard, Major Kira Nerys, Dax, Commander Benjamin Sisko, 7 of Nine, Delenn, Michael Garibaldi, G’kar, Vir Cotto, Cmdr. Susan Ivanova, Londo Mollari, Kramer, George Costanza, Elaine Benes, John Crichton, Officer Aeryn Sun, Ka Da’rgo, Scorpius, Xena & Gabrielle, Buffy Summers, Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, Dr Gaius Baltar, Number Six, Helo!, Admiral Willam Adama, Detective Rust Cohle, Tyrion Lannister…and so on and so forth. Barely scratched the surface, just too damn many…which is a good thing. TV rocks.

  • Sagamanus

Wow I’ve only seen three shows on this list. Dallas doesn’t count, even though I’m familiar with the characters.

  • Sagamanus

Yes I’ve seen that show. And agree.

Rust Chole was awesome and I too highly recommend TD. The First one that is!

  • Tarmac492.1

LMFAO!! I guess 80s and 90’s gangsta rappers are almost the same as the 60’s hippies who all became Yuppies and executives living in Greenwich?

  • Stalkeye

Yanno. I guess Cyndi Lauper called it..

  • George Costanza is probably my favorite TV character. Love the Cheryl pick too.

  • Zed

    ..

  • Bop

I gave up on the second one after 2 episodes. I expected they could never measure up to the first season, but the characters just didn’t captivate me at all.

  • Bop

    Time to catch up,Sags. 🙂

  • Bop

Great that you knew maybe 10 percent on the list. That means you missed out on some great show, so at least you can try some of them out when you get the time. I understand how you feel about the time. I often watch tv during lunch and dinner because then I can get some free time and these days I only follow a few shows. There is way too much to see and that is a good thing, so in the future one can continue to see quality stuff when the time permits it.

  • Bop

    Danke, Dee.

  • Stalkeye

“Col. Steve Austin, Fred G. Sanford, George Jefferson,”

    Fuck, yea!!

  • Stalkeye

Shit, you held on much longer than me.
I re-watched some of the first episodes of The Knick instead.
True “Defective” seems more like it. Does not compare to the first season in any shape or form.

  • Stalkeye

Yes, it was either Canethesutter or Rare English Rose (During my previous UFO article at Talkbacker) who mentioned that Wanda Ventham costarred in Cumberbatch’s Sherlock. She was definitely a Dime back in those days.

Surprised Straker didn’t get it on with either her or Nina Barry. Oh, he was too pre occupied saving the World from Alien Invaders.

  • Stalkeye

Oh, Bop you left out Kai Proctor. (Banshee) He’s definitely one of the more interesting characters on TV. His conflict with his inner demons and the Amish ways as well as being a major Badass Villain. OK, the relationship with Rebecca was too creepy , but overall I figured he would also make your list.

Too true, there’s a lot I haven’t seen this last decade. At least I’ll have a shit ton to watch when I’m in my 70’s!

Good article; I only disagree with June Stahl. Mainly because the character is played by the worst actress ever on television. But where is my favorite character, James Rockford? $200/day plus expenses.

Damn…. The Man from A.T.L.A.N.T.I.S. has been working out….

When I think Dallas, I think Kristin in a bikini climbing out of the pool…. yowza

Stalks. It might come as a surprise, but I don’t like the Proctor character that much. 🙂

So I watched the first season for the past 2 days.

    Can you answer 2 questions?
Will Boyd be a bible thumper for 6 seasons?

Will Arlo survive? Mang, is that an annoying character.

  • No, Boyd will continue to fuck with everyone, but not just the religion way.

    No comment on Arlo. lol

boyd is a great character who goes through alot of changes. Arlo is not a huge character. Hope you like. Season 2 and 3 are killer.

  • Bop

Well, I hope Arlo gets offed very soon.

  • Bop

I hope Arlo goes the way of the dodo with the sidenote that I liked the dodo.
