“Prometheus”-sequel gets official title & synopsis “Prometheus”-sequel gets official title & synopsis
Official title is now "Alien: Covenant" and the synopsis raises questions “Prometheus”-sequel gets official title & synopsis

So, after all the different iterations of the title – from “Prometheus 2” to “Alien: Paradise Lost” – 20th Century Fox released the above artwork that is now supposedly the really really we mean it this time-final title of Ridley Scott’s upcoming sequel to his 2012 film “Prometheus“.

“Alien: Covenant”.

The official synopsis raises more questions than it has answers. Here it is:

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Notice the point about David being the “sole survivor”. I guess Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw got lost somewhere there. Or maybe David ended up sacrificing her for the “mission” – as he had no qualms about sacrificing anyone in the first movie. Or could it be, that as this prequel-series has now expanded into a trilogy – as Scott confirmed just a short time ago – Shaw might end up making an appearance in the third part, which – as Scott says: “takes it right back into ‘Alien’…”.

Or maybe she ran away from another rolling object in a straight line?

Questions, questions, questions…. Fox also set the release date for the film, it opens October 6th, 2017.

So it’s a trilogy now? I don’t think they should have ALIEN in the title.

  • I_am_better

So it has been said. Aren’t prequel-trilogies a brilliant idea?

    Oh, wait…

  • Tim R.R. Something

Maybe they couldn’t pay her enough money to be in another dumbass film.

  • I_am_better

Soon there’s gonna be news that she’s “in talks” to play Lisbeth Salander for Sony or something…

  • Tim R.R. Something

We get to learn everything. We’ll even see an alien going to the bathroom.

Get studio head on the phone…

    That might actually work.

  • Tim R.R. Something

“”. I guess Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw got lost somewhere ” Well she didn’t pack any food, water or air, or even a change of clothes.

  • I_am_better

Oh – another plot hole I totally forgot

  • Tim R.R. Something

    There were so many.

  • I_am_better

They could retitle it “Alien: Plot Holes”

  • I_am_better

    “Plotholeus”?

  • Turd Has Escaped The Gravy

Indiana Jones: “I’m going after that truck.”

    I wanna see a female engineer’s flappy, milky vag…

So this is the film that has put Blomkempt’s Aliens sequel on (indefinite) hold?
Ridley, just give it up ok??

  • It might sound weird me saying so (and i’m quite surprised to say this myself) but it seems the sequel might actually have a chance of improving or being decent. It does help that two of the wirst aspects of Prometheus seem to be absent: The terrible character of Shaw (not the acting from Rapace, who she did a good job), and the retaining of one of the two ONLY good things about the Prometheus’s characters , David (the other was Theron/Thron’s character).

I’m not usually an optimist regarding this things, but here’s to hoping.

  • Seriously, i don’t know why both can’t co-exist.

  • The last line was the ONLY inspiration for LOST.

  • Nuke that fucking fridge!!

  • This is why i love procedual movies. They are good in keeping suspention of disbelief and not distract audiences with plot holes.

  • Written by boy-genious Damon Lindelof, what did you expect?

  • Stalkeye

Well shit, if Disney will produce all these new SW films, why not Fox double down on their Alien franchise? I was somewhat excited with what Neil would do with the Alien sequel and whether or not he would disregard Alien 3 & Resurrection as canon.

  • I love Alien3, but if Bloomckamp could make a good Alien movie that was a direct sequel to Aliens, i would be down with it. As long the movie is good, it’s all fair game.

“If Disney will produce all these new SW films, why not Fox double down on their Alien franchise?”

I couldn’t have said it better myself (english being my second language nonwithstanding).

  • I read you, but the summary above does give me hopes. Besides, Damon Lindelof is not involved, and that’s good news, very good news indeed.

  • That’s not news. Scott and the people from the production did mentioned, in the months before Prometheus was released, the plan was to create a prequel trilogy which would link directly to Alien.
