Welcome to Part 2 of our episode “Most Anticipated Movies of 2015”. Click here for Part 1.

The BOPX regulars Ronnie James Dio, I am Better, Detective Dee an their guest from the United Kingdom, Colonel Tigh-Fighter discuss again the most anticipated movies of 2015.

Topics:

  • Will 2015 be the year all geeks are waiting for? Or will the hype inevitably create disappointment ? Is Spielberg correct with his assumption that the sheer amount of Blockbusters will lead to Hollywood cannibalizing itself?
  • Universal Pictures had 2014 its most successful year in ages, despite having no blockbuster at the start. This goes contrary to the belief of the studios that think they have to go bigger and bigger. Does this mean the medium-budgeted movie returns?
  • Which movie do we think will flop? And which one do we hope will flop?

Enjoy! (Beware: Possible controversies ahead!)

  • Let’s do this.

  • Heyy – nice “previously”-segment

  • Ah, you edited out me contradicting myself. Good. I suck at debates, mostly

  • Woah, Dio putting words into my mouth. I said “Most people hate on 50% of Marvel movies.” I like the ones people hate. Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Thor 2, etc. These are films that even Marvel fans say are crap. Go back to the tape, Dio.

  • hm did not notice

  • Zach Snyder takes the time to make a good film. That’s what he does.

  • It was at the start of the debate. I remember totally talking myself into a dead end.

  • I did not edit much…

  • Just enough, then 🙂

  • Col. Tigh-Fighter

    Who’s Martin?

  • Col. Tigh-Fighter

    In Synder We Trust.

  • Dio dreaming of Martinis.

  • Dracula 2000 must get all the promo it deserves:

  • “A small climax by page eleven…” Is this the script of 50 Shades of Gray now…?

  • It got PR enough…

  • Talked to Sam Rockwell about the Poltergeist remake…

  • What was that James Woods-clip from? Simpsons?

  • Ha, yeah.

  • Yes!

  • I know my shit

  • LOL the second clip did give it away

  • Col Tigh: (Gasps)

    – and so it begins….

  • Col. Tigh-Fighter

    Shocking!

  • Col. Tigh-Fighter

Much gasping from me lol. I had had a few by that point 😉

  • It always helps. I always have a few drinks before recording

  • “Killing is fun. Sadism is fun”
    -Detective Dee

  • …. in movies. That was lost in the laughter a little.

  • I know. Still quote of the week

  • Col. Tigh-Fighter

    I resisted a joke at that point………. lol 😉

  • I’m going to abuse my status here. Feel free to change it if anyone wants.

  • Whoops. i made a little addition on it actually

  • Downvote!

  • I don’t wanna come across as too harsh, lol

  • The post-apocalypse is also fun.

  • You Australians and your apocalypses

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Man of Steel = Best Superhero Film

  • Col. Tigh-Fighter

    That was fun.

  • Of 2014?
    Of June 2014?
    Of June 13th 2014? Maybe

  • We’ll definitely want to have you on a show again

  • Hey that is a good idea!

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    Ever.

  • I can’t say I agree with you Nick. It’s not even the best Superman movie.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    EVER.

  • Thanks! It was fun with you!

  • as opposed to the rest of us?

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I’m still bummed missed my appearance with Dan. I was heavily armed.

  • If you are in a marriage for a long time… a menage a trois can liven things up again.

  • Chopped liver

  • Col. Tigh-Fighter

    Anytime guys. 🙂

  • You’re coming on for sure.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    HOORAY!

My connection issues have lessened greatly I’m happy to report.

  • Col. Tigh-Fighter

It’s always funtime with the Colonel!

  • Col. Tigh-Fighter

    LOL WIN!!!!

  • Col. Tigh-Fighter

    Seems legit.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Really, I think I’m most excited about “Peanuts.”

  • And Spongebob?

  • It looked good. I hope it was just the trailer that felt a bit misguided.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Marvel films I genuinely like: Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Thor, Cap 1 & 2.

I still don’t think any of them are as good as Man of Steel, Ang Lee’s Hulk, Singer/Vaughn X-Men, Dark Knight Trilogy, Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, Punisher War Zone, or even Burton’s Batman films.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

That goes without saying! We will fucking be there!!!

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Which trailer? Theres a third one out that I need to watch, like, now.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    Yes, more medium range films!!!!

Over the past 10 years, the best films I’ve seen have been under the radar. Money don’t mean quality!

  • The one that focused on only Snoopy and the birds. Maybe that was just one scene in the movie. I gotta check that third one

  • You’re right on the money and you’ve touched on it before. We need less “too big to fail” movies.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

As a Charlie Brown fanatic, I thought they nailed it. Snoopy is what is going to draw in the kids, so using him for advertising is wise. You can’t have Peanuts without some Snoopy/Woodstock tomfoolery.

  • Yeah, but Peanuts has always been more than just Snoopy/Woodstock. I hope they(makers) haven’t forgotten that.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Batman v Superman is a Batman film. It was never a direct Man of Steel sequel.

  • Col. Tigh-Fighter

I still think he should have been given a sequel on his own before being shoehorned into a bigger universe.

  • Somewhere out there is a sequel he deserves, but that the studio decided we don’t need right now

  • Mr Nick Nightly

It makes sense, really. Superman is going to face quite a bit of anger over not just the destruction, but for being responsible for an alien invasion! If he exists in a world filled with heroes, it only makes sense that they come around immediately.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    TV still sucks.

  • Not buying into the now is the golden age of tv?

  • Mr Nick Nightly

No. I still only watch as many shows as I ever have.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

No, I can’t see that. I guarantee Snoopy is being used to get kids excited but in the film we’ll just get a few amusing scenes, like the requisit “fighter pilot” fantasies.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

On the film’s plot, Martino said: “Here’s where I lean thematically. I want to go through this journey… Charlie Brown is that guy who, in the face of repeated failure, picks himself back up and tries again. That’s no small task. I have kids who aspire to be something big and great… a star football player or on Broadway. I think what Charlie Brown is — what I hope to show in this film — is the everyday qualities of perseverance… to pick yourself back up with a positive attitude — that’s every bit as heroic… as having a star on the Walk of Fame or being a star on Broadway. That’s the [story’s] core. This is a feature film story that has a strong dramatic drive, and takes its core ideas from the strip.”[2] Martino and his animators spent over a year looking at Charles Schulz’ original drawing style to help translate the “hand-drawn warmth… into the cool pixel-precision of CGI” without the fear of something getting lost in translation, such as “how the dot of an eye [conveyed] joy or sorrow so efficiently”.[2] In addition to receiving the rights to use Bill Melendez’ voice for Snoopy and Woodstock, Martino was also able to get the rights to archive music from previous Peanuts specials.[2] Classic locations will be featured, such as Charlie Brown’s skating pond, his house, “the wall” and Lucy’s psychiatrist booth, each retaining their “eternal look of the strip.”

  • Okay, that’s cool. Good to know.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    Hell yeah, its exciting!

  • Yup. Always loved the cartoons

  • I just cannot see how TV can replace movies. The mode of storytelling is completely different.

  • No love for hacker Doom ??

Don’t you people know he wrote the code for Livefyre commenting ??

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I love “It’s Magic, Charlie Brown.”

At first I thought it strayed too far with Snoopy turning Charlie Brown invisible during a magic show. And then I saw the meaning. How much more “Charlie Brown” can you get than making him invisible? It’s pretty deep stuff.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    Never.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

And there will ways be more movies than tv shows. Just numbers alone will keep movies ahead of tv.

  • There’s soo much deep stuff hidden into those.

  • wouldn’t it have been a better story if Eva betrayed him, and Bond was ordered to kill her by MI6 ??

I think that would have made Bonds whole approach towards woman much more real.

Also, is that the only movie where Eva Green DOES NOT get her tits out?? Or does she??

  • She’s in the shower and underwater – with clothes on

  • I can deal with a 2hr movie with a botched ending. But a 70hrs+ series with a dumb ending? No thanks!

  • Roger Moore punching Jaws in the gut. Looking up at him and smiling……. Classic Bond

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    YUP.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Say what you will about Transformers, people LOVE them.

  • It would have been better and different from “Her Majesty’s Secret Service”:

  • I always say what i will about Bayformers. Sometime i even write it down.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Still better than Guardians of the Galaxy.

  • Coonery slaped woman around and was still fun. Then he made James Bond movies also…..

  • thats a matter of opinion.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    Of course.

  • I’m not hearing much anticipation for Samurai Cop 2. Im telling you son of a bitches right now. Its gonna blow……………. you away.

  • Hillbilly Therapist

FF “stillborn”? Say it ain’t so!

  • Hillbilly Therapist

Batman vs. Superman vs. Wonder Woman vs. Aquaman vs. Green Lantern vs. SONY vs. NORTH KOREA!

  • Neuromancer Audio Commentaries

RJD is right on the money at the 9:00 minute mark.

  • Neuromancer Audio Commentaries

Watchmen is an awful awful movie though. But he’s ok. But Watchmen….no.

  • Neuromancer Audio Commentaries

Slow your roll there kid. Batman Begins owns that film from soup to nuts. I mean….let’s not make outrageous statements.

  • Neuromancer Audio Commentaries

Yeah……that’s too much Canadian Old Toby talking.

  • Neuromancer Audio Commentaries

    Agog

  • Neuromancer Audio Commentaries

    23:30 such strong points.

  • Neuromancer Audio Commentaries

Dee on a Point Break sequel: “It’s going to be soulless.” Lol so fun.

  • Neuromancer Audio Commentaries

    Me when BOPX episode ends.

  • Neuromancer Audio Commentaries

Casino Royale is totally flaccid. Dee is right.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I love Batman Begins so I’ll accept this.

  • Thanks!

  • Mr Nick Nightly

He didn’t seem to enthusiastic about it. “Gentleman Broncos” got him going, though.

  • Hillbilly Therapist

FF seems doomed and it seems inexplicable. Start in the middle of the action, no origin, and hit it out of the park. But no. Sony is making Fantastic Teen Angst X-Men Hunger Games Four.

  • Hillbilly Therapist

I agree with Dee. This bond arc is a prequel and nobody asked for it. When does Bond Begin?

  • Hillbilly Therapist

    Remake Goldfinger..

  • Hillbilly Therapist

Roger Moore casts a long, campy shadow.

  • Hillbilly Therapist

“…not some asshole who can’t do his job.”
    or getting his balls beaten.

  • Yes! I mean: three movies??? Could that not have been handled in one?

  • HEYMYDAVE

Sorry guys, I just don’t get it. James Bond? Do Americans really care about who plays James Bond or if this franchise continues on? I generally don’t understand the draw to any European or even British Entertainment with the exception of Karl Pilkington, alone. I will admit that I did like King Ralph.

  • HEYMYDAVE

Superman is by far the most unentertaining superhero of all time.

  • HEYMYDAVE

Yeah, No Shit. No Ned Betty or Richard Pryor.

  • HEYMYDAVE

Is there any truth that Jeff Speakman will return to the big screen as Egg Head, as an easter egg?

  • HEYMYDAVE

Roger Moore looks like he mows his lawn in knee socks.

  • Boooo!
