  • You vandal!

  • Trekkies are afraid of women in underwear.

  • Bought the Adam West Batman series on Blu. Fuck the rest.

  • The Real Ghostbusters was probably my favorite cartoon growing up. I revisited a few episodes last month and I was surprised how well it held up. J. Michael Straczynski is the man.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

It’s a pretty insane show. The first 13 episodes or so were nightmarish

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I can’t understand such complaints. Fucking pussies.

  • Their heads would implode if they saw bush.

  • “Speaking of a pile of shit…” LOL – and 100% agree

  • There IS too much dumb shit out there, yeah

  • Yeah I hated school as well. What a prison.

  • Loved the Real Ghostbusters, There was a bad guy called Gork who turned New York into “New Gork”

  • Gork, the Duke of New Gork, A no.1

  • Shia LaBoof is insane

  • There was a Rambo cartoon!

  • But “Ewoks” rocked.

  • Aural? Oral?

  • tiny tiny head

  • Yeah. It’s like a male cartoon Anne Hathaway

  • I recall reading a “MASK”-comic at some point

  • Me too. It was great.

  • Ha, great lead in!

  • My brother and I had a badass MASK toy collection growing up.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

That was one of the best toylines!

  • Nick and I perform aural sex to our listeners. If it it was oral sex, we’d probably have a lot more diseases.

  • There was one weird cartoon with dwarfs in space and their space ship looked like an old-timey wooden ship with a glass dome.

  • ReBoot! I remember that!

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Nobody wants to kick ass with a sweaty neck.

  • Chuck Norris Action Scarf(TM). Only $29,99

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Here’s the Evil Dead episode I was talking about!

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I had that shit! I was a big fan of “The Octagon” when I was 6.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

There was a great toy line for this one too. There were the action figures and vehicles, of course. But then there was the fucking weapons! Tons of toy rocket launchers, guns, grenades, and that bad ass Rambo knife. My grandmother bought me a ton of these and my mother threw them all away because she didn’t want me attacking my brother with them.

  • What’s a “plethora”?

  • “There’s a Rambo movie?” Lol

  • hipster

  • Great interview!

  • Maybe Nick can dub my voice for future Planet X-podcasts

  • Jk

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I like your voice. It has presence. Inbox me to hear who I think sucks 😉

  • Mr Nick Nightly

That was a joke, by the way.

  • lol

  • Was it Trekkies or the consistent outrage machine?

  • I guess it was not Trekkies I said it for the giggles.

  • Sorry! I always step on your jokes. Damn it.

  • That’s usuallywhat I always do, lol

  • That montage was fantastic. What a trip down memory lane.

  • One of my favorites too.

  • Really, really good episode. Neil truly is the man. And count me in with the Christmas card too.

  • Shut up! I love your robotic voice, it’s awesome. You are even better then those programs that turn your voice into a robot.

  • As someone who hates his own voice, i’m always at awe of people with great voices. It’s one thing i would love to have, a great speaking and singing voice.

  • There’s a lot of red in that. Did Chuck played a communist?

  • Dude are you kidding me? Have you seen how many beauties in short skirts exist in TOS? It’s like a doen each episode. If there is one thing that a trekkie surely must like is a good scanclad dressed beauty flaunting her sexy. Who kn ows how many kids got their first sex urges from watching Uhura and her long legs of wonder?

The people who complained about Alice Eve in a bikini were some sort of puritans. That scene was the only thing of some worth in the film. It was badly done, but what was glimpsed was worthy. Of all the things to complain about STID, Alice Eve’s strip was not one of them. Talk about screwed priorities.

  • You mean the useless puritans who are a cancer of society?

  • Are you kidding? Those people can’t get enough Bush

  • That’s actually who I mean, yes.

Probably my favorite Saturday morning cartoon:

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I was nuts for this show. It’s another that I knew of before the film.

  • Holy moly. I forgot all about this.

Captain N was the shit!! Power Team…not so much…

    Surprisingly on topic…

Yesterday I went to Alamo Drafthouse’s Saturday Morning Cartoon Cereal Party. They played Christmas-themed episodes of 5 cartoons, and had all-you-can-eat cereal buffet. They screened:

The Real Ghostbusters – The guys go back in time and accidentally stop the ghosts from visiting Scrooge, which has time-rippling consequences. Everyone in the future hates Christmas…I don’t really remember watching the cartoon back in the day, but it wasn’t bad. The voice acting cast was crazy…voices of Garfield, Rafael maybe?, Arsenio Hall…

Darkwing Duck – The villain (a plant thing?) gets pissed he can’t get the gifts he wants at the mall during last minute shopping, and vows to get revenge by doing…something (I don’t remember). Darkwing Duck somehow bumbles out a victory…I never liked DD, and this was pretty bad.

Pinky & The Brain – Brain devises a toy that hypnotizes people. They go up to the North Pole, sneak their blueprints into the Elve’s production line, and try to get Santa to deliver them to every kid. Hilarity ensues…really fantastic episode.

X-Men – One of the Morlocks is deathly ill, and the X-Men (who are out last minute shopping) catch them stealing medical supplies. They follow the Morlocks down to the sewers and treat the sick kid. Wolverine absolutely refuses to give his blood because reasons, but then he does it anyway and saves the kid. The B-story was Jean Grey vs. Gambit in the kitchen, each one wanting to cook X-mas dinner their own way. Loved the cartoon as a kid, but this was quite terrible.

Spongebob Squarepants – Stop-motion claymation episode where the villain made cookies that everyone ate which turned them into assholes. Santa (John Goodman) comes by and snaps everyone out of it. Shockingly, this was the first time I’ve ever seen Spongebob, like ever. Quite enjoyable.

I was pissed that it ended there, because on the webpage promoting the event, the header image was Batman, so I was expecting to see some B:TAS action. Sigh…

  • Mr Nick Nightly

That is really awesome. I love that Spongebob special and have it on blu-ray. Spongebob is a genuinely funny show if you stick with the first 3-4 seasons. The rest are good, but it can be hit or miss.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    It still holds up!

  • Demagog Dog

I think I avoided it when it came out because it looked like a Ren & Stimpy clone/rip-off, and I was still sore about R&S going down the drain…

  • Demagog Dog

For anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, the cartoon voice over documentary I Know That Voice is now streaming on Netflix:

  • Demagog Dog

Oh dude, I’ve still got it in rotation. The music in that show, my god…it’s embedded in my soul. Seriously the best soundtrack to a cartoon that’s ever been made.

  • Demagog Dog

I thought it was lame that there was a full moon in every single episode. Yeah, that’s right…in a show about a family of werewolves, it was the lack of respect for the lunar rotation that got me.

  • It was just a cheap joke. Trekkies are actually pretty horny.

  • Man, that’s fucking cool.

  • Demagog Dog

You always knew the good times were over when Soul Train came on. The animated intro gave you hope the cartoons would keep coming, but nope…later it was when Saved by the Bell and California Dreamin’ came on

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I remember it giving me the same impression when it first came on. It’s definitely it’s own thing.

  • “Samurai Pizza Cats”, omg

  • You can’t populate the galaxy otherwise.

  • Funny and insightful interview. Neil Ross is a true gentleman.

  • I really enjoyed his description of working on video games.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I also hated that bullshit show on ABC at noon that adapted classic novels and fairy tales into cheaply animated drivel.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

I liked it so much I watched it twice. Plus, E.G. Daily and Tara Strong make me want to intercourse.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Damn works of cartoon fiction and their scientific inaccuracies!

  • Mr Nick Nightly

’82 Hulk cartoon is classic as well.

  • Posting this here (from the end of the show):

    Addie and Her Family

    P.O Box 162, Fountain Green, Utah, 84632

  • Wish I lived near one. They always do cool stuff

  • It’s ducked up isn’t it

  • Nick has the second best voice on thus network

  • Your voice is straight up finish sex bot

  • Can’t argue with that.

  • One of my favourites.

  • 30 Seconds to Mars has some good stuff but it’s mostly overly melo-dramatic poser emo leaning.

  • I’m not happy about Smith as Deadshot but if he keeps the mask on the entire time maybe it’ll work.

  • Rest of the cast is solid though.

  • gorgarwilleatyou1

Nice episode fellas, I have just finished it takes me a while as its my Monday / Tuesday driving to work listening pleasure.

I am now in NY but grew up in the UK and we got most of the shows you covered so I can relate very well and have fond memories of Space Sentinels, Battle of the Planets, He Man etc etc
I am sure UK readers will also remember our own brand shows Danger Mouse, Bananaman, Ulysses 31 and weird euro imports such as Dogtanian, Vicky the viking etc etc

Good episode looking forward to next week….

Hey what happened to the post credit funny….

  • He was asking for it.

  • A.I. is “his” best.

  • A.I. haters can fuck off because all their complaints about it make ZERO sense.

  • I’m gonna check out Daredevil for sure as he’s always been one of my favourite Marvel characters, but the others I’m not that interested in.

  • Reboot is awesome, especially when it goes all crazy as fuck in Season 3.

  • Samurai Pizza Cats was awesome. It was actually a spoof of many different types of cartoons, such as TMNT, Voltron, etc. However, that’s only the English dub version, which was changed drastically from the original Japanese version. Complete dialogue rewrites and tons of North American pop culture references and parodies.

I actually didn’t know that until I met this half-Japanese kid at my first job and we started talking about cartoons. I mentioned Samurai Pizza Cats and he knew I meant this Ninja Cat show he watched back in Japan, but he had no idea what I was talking about with all the jokes and stuff. Looked it up online later that day.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

We had Danger Mouse and Bananaman here! I used to love them. Count Duckula was really popular here too.

  • Hahaha, he was the Codex Narrator in Mass Effect. I love listening to those.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

That’s interesting. I’d like to see the originals and compare.

  • I concur

  • I tried finding them awhile back but could only find a few and they never had any subtitles so it was a pointless endeavor for me not knowing Japanese. Just checked again and there was an uncut release of all the original Japanese episodes with English subtitles on DVD in 2013, so might be easier to find now.

  • The post credit stinger will return, for sure. Thanks for listening!

  • Welcome to the Thunderdome, pal!

  • I’m from Portugal.

Here we had shows like Danger Mouse, Bananaman, Ulysses 31, Dogtanian, Vicky The Viking, Ruy, El Pequeño Cid, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Mysterious Cities of Gold, and last but not the least, the utterly awesome Future Boy Conan.

We also had some american show like He-Man, Thundercats, Flash Gordon, and the WB (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porkie Pig) and Hanna-Barbera cartoons.

  • Krysten Ritter is not ugly!

  • Loved Vicky. Sadly they made a lousy live-action version in Germany some years ago.

  • gorgarwilleatyou1

Hey interesting never knew that, i must see if i can find some clips. I used to love that show as a kid ridiculously catchy theme tune!

  • gorgarwilleatyou1

That was kind of cool the got the characters looking right at least.

  • Movie is not worth it though… check it out, make your own mind up.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

    Yes she is!

-Tom Hardy is NOT one of the 50 best working actors today.
-Will Smith is an annoying dickhead, the black Sander.
-Margot Robbie is a great Harley Quinn,
-Will Biff Tannen appear in the new Terminator? Is Biffco somehow tied to Skynet?
