Detective Dee reviews movies and sometimes TV-series. He likes to indulge in the Asian cinema, exploitation flicks and the horror genre but is no stranger to Blockbuster culture either. He writes whatever he wants, but always aims to entertain.

  • I_am_better

    Epic intro

  • Abe

…to hear the lamination of your enemy’s women. You really are a bad ass.

  • I_am_better

I was quite laughter-prone during this

  • Abe

    Banjo country

  • I_am_better

You can’t NOT laugh to “I took advantage of you when you were in Mars prison…”

  • I_am_better

The kid who played the young Conan, who Cane mentioned:

  • Dee

Ole Thorsen was a baddie in several Arnie films.

  • I_am_better

Yeah, he’s been in most of them, I think. And of course was Sven in “The Running Man”. “I’ve got to score some steroids…”

  • Dee

He was one of the Russians in “Predator”.

My English in that episode… “They painted the cat black”

  • I_am_better
  • I_am_better

    Darla!

  • Dee
  • I_am_better

Ah, the great Lord of the Rings-beatdown, where I’m beaten 4-1

  • I_am_better

I don’t think grammar-nazis listen to our show

  • Fate_Slistcrunch

Sorry … wish I could have joined in your hour of need like Gandalf at Helms Deep.

  • I_am_better

Fuck! I was a man who got his ass kicked by windmills here

  • RJD

Holly was 2014 PMOTY (Czech playboy)

  • Dee

    Can you surf?

No, but IAB is a big dude. He can toss me.

  • I_am_better

WTF? That Ator audio clip is crazy

  • I_am_better
  • Dee

    4???

  • I_am_better

Yup. According to Wiki, there’s four

  • Bop

    FUCKING AWESOME MOVIE.

  • Bop

    Go Cane, go Cane, go.

  • I_am_better

Good interview. Love the Gary Busey end tag

  • Bop

So why are there so few great sword and sorcery movies?

  • I_am_better

I think it’s because so few filmmakers don’t take the material seriously, and go to the campy style.

  • Bop

It shouldn’t be so hard. You take a few muscleheads and a few scantilly clad women who are in shape. Give them swords, axes, demons, monsters and witches and get the chopping started.

  • Bop

And why the fuck isn’t there a movie about Amazons? Some barbaric women with swords chopping the shit out of male chauvinist pigs.

  • Dee

    There are!

  • Abe

Okay Bop! Let’s get this funded.

  • Bop

Yeah, but probably very low budget, right?

  • I_am_better

    KICKSTARTER!

  • Dee

Mostly the wrong people did it… They noticed the audience would suck it up, even if they did not put in their utmost effort.

  • Dee

Still from the monumental film era, 60s and 70s.

  • I_am_better

    “Gwendoline”?

  • I_am_better
  • Abe

    Snu snu!

  • I_am_better

    DEATH by Snu Snu!!!

  • Abe

    If only.

  • Bop

Rule 1: No Angelina Jolie and similar fake ass women.
    Rule 2: No Twilighters
Rule 3: There must be lots of blood.
Rule 4: No fucking Orcs or Hobbits
Rule 5: Tom Savini and Rob Bottin for the demon costumes and masks.

  • Bop

Mark Dacascos is underrated. He only made the best American martial arts movie ever.

  • Abe

    This gets better and better.

  • Bop

You can’t call yourself a movie fan if you didn’t see Brotherhood Of The Wolf.

  • I_am_better
  • Bop

That collector’s edition is the pride of my collection.

  • I_am_better

    I’ve got the very same

  • Bop

I love the director’s commentary. And the DVD menu is awesome.

  • I_am_better

All right. Good show everybody. I gotta go and try to empty my 100-pound snot-filled head and try not to cough my lungs out in the process

  • Dee

Not only damn talented as Martial artist, also quite charismatic.

  • Bop

He has a lot of charisma. Never understood why he didn’t get more big budget movies.

And Cradle 2 The Grave doesn’t count. Fucking Bartkowiak. He ruined Jet Li vs Mark Dacascos.

  • Dee

Yeah what a joke! That should have been the most epic showdown.

  • Bop

Rule 6: Great scenery with lively colors
Rule 7: No pussy magic. Evil dark magic shit
    Rule 8: Evil fucking demons
Rule 9: There must be great battles. Spartacus levels of chopping.
    Rule 10: Rated NC-17

  • Bop

How many times you see 2 guys like that in one movie? Hardly ever.
And they fuck it up by having Bartkowiak direct it.

Can’t wait for The Raid 3 because it will be Iko Uwais vs Tony Jaa.
And rest assured The Raid 3 will deliver.

  • Abe

I think we need Bop’s rules for all genres now.

  • Dee

It would have improved “The English Patient”

  • Bop

Uwe Boll’s Rampage movies are awesome.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Did you see” Solomon Kane?” Quite awesome.

  • Bop

Didn’t see it. Added it to the queue. Thanks.

  • Mr Nick Nightly

Man, I could not do the second one.

  • RJD

    i know !!!

  • Bop

    Why not?

  • Sooo…I’m guessing you’ve never seen Barbarian Queen (1985)? Famous for its submission hold by vagina scene.

  • I believe you just answered your own question.

  • The hell with Rule 10. I see no need to be so family friendly in a sword & sorcery movie. 😉

  • I disagree…the pussy is the greatest source of magic!

  • CreepyThinMan
  • CreepyThinMan

HOLY FUCK Bop THAT’S A GREAT IDEA!!! PAGING MR. VERHOEVEN, MR. VERHOEVEN YOU’RE SERVICES ARE NEEDED!!!FACT!!!

  • CreepyThinMan

AND THE DESTROYER OF MANY GREAT MEN!!!FACT!!!

  • If he was destroyed by pussy he wasn’t great…and probably wasn’t very good at it either.

  • CreepyThinMan
  • RJD

crush your enemies see them flee before your lands and hear the lamentations of their women

  • CreepyThinMan

    That’s something you’ll never hear at a Furries convention!!!FACT!!!

  • RJD

    MFF !

  • RJD

the crow : stairway to heaven

    underrated series

  • RJD

    thats greatness bop

  • RJD

if you have the rights you could make thieves world with no name actors cheap – liber stuff even Lankhmar mfers !!!

  • RJD

    real sets practical effects yes

horror vets would be excellent on fantasy films

  • Bop

Definitely underrated and I am very glad I have the DVD box of that season.

  • Bop

That is even a bigger No-Brainer. ARE YOU LISTENING, HOLLYWOOD?

  • Bop

Nope. I did not. Will seek that one out.

  • Bop

Not if she sucks all your money out of the bank.

  • Bop

I stand corrected. I thought adults only was Rated-R.

  • Interesting metaphor.

  • Cane sounds good. Kinda like a more eloquent Asimov.

  • First fantasy film I remember seeing is probably Willow. The Eborsisk scene scared the shit out of me.

  • First fantasy book was one of the Lion, Witch, Wardrobe things. Hated it and never finished it. Didn’t touch a fantasy novel again until The Hobbit when I was in high school.

  • I don’t get the recent dislike of the LOTR films. I’ve rewatched ’em since getting them on Blu-ray and I still love them. Well, not so much the last one, RotK drags a bit too much and the endings go on way too long.

I like the films way more than the books. The books were too painfully detailed and full of boring sections. I read them while in hospital for about a month and I loved elements of them, but man it was difficult to get through. I’m bored out of my mind stuck in that bed as it is and the books only made me more eager to GTFO.

The Hobbit is by far the best of the books, IMO.

  • Love Dragonheart!

  • I can’t remember anything about The Scorpion King. I know I’ve seen it though.

  • Uwe Boll is an interesting character. =P

  • I haven’t seen many of his films but the best I’ve seen is probably Postal just because of how offensively bad it is. Hilariously so.

  • Hahahaha he has a movie coming out soon called Bigfoots vs. Zombies.

  • She sounds very familiar to me. Not sure who but she definitely sounds like someone I know.

  • EXACTLY!

Everyone complains about the lack of standalone female superhero films, but there is a legitimate fucking reason why, that being all the previous attempts have been massive failures. Of course Hollywood is going to stick with what works, male superheros.

Will there be a great female superhero film someday? Sure, definitely, but no one in their right mind was going to attempt one so soon after the one-two punch of Elektra/Catwoman in 2004/2005 that set the whole idea back at least a decade.

  • Dee

She is Canadian.. you are Canadian… maybe you met?

  • Dee

The LOTR books are far too detailed. They could not have been adapted as they are. But the movies should have tried at least to “capture the spirit”.

  • Dee

Those books drag after the first one.

  • Nah, Newfoundland is pretty much off on its own compared to the rest of Canada.

  • The first one is pretty spot on to the books in spirit from what I can recall. Overall I don’t think it’s that bad at all, but not being a massive fan of the books probably affects that judgement. I am however a huge fan of The Hobbit and that’s why I have yet to watch any of those films. I expect a total and utter disgrace.

  • I_am_better

That doesn’t sound like a fair fight

  • The Real Cat Man Do

    lmao
