Hey, hey everyone.
This week you can get some bad horror, kickass action, a 3-pack of animation from Studio Ghibli and some Blu-Ray releases for films that I am surprised weren’t yet out for Blu-Ray. As usual, click on the images to be teleported to a land of wonder called Amazon. In this magical place, you can buy these DVDs and send some coins to help fill up the giant Scrooge McDuck-like money tower that Slate has been building.
Did I miss anything? Make sure to note it in the comments!
Maybe another substitute teacher will go to jail for showing this in her class. The first one of these was filled with hit / miss shorts so I imagine this will be too. Still worth checking out, I bet.
Kathy Bates naked. That enough to get you to buy this Blu-Ray release? No? Well FUCK YOU THEN! No, seriously, this is a good movie. Definitely worth checking out if you haven’t yet.
This is a satire about four black kids who face racism (and a black-face party) at an Ivy League school. Take out the part about this being a satire and you have what happens here in America everyday. But I do want to watch this. It was a surprise hit last year and my one black friend said it was hilarious.
Dracula Untold is not a good movie, but it is not godawful either. It is one of those movies that makes you instantly forget about it as soon as you leave the theatre, as if you had never seen it.
This 1993 biopic about the legendary martial artist Bruce Lee didn’t do much for me when I saw it originally. But I am sure some people want to buy this Blu-Ray release. So go ahead. Click above. Send us some money.
Friends go out to party in the woods and get killed by Big Foot.
Do I want to see Simon Pegg write the next Star Trek movie? No. Do I generally like Simon Pegg’s films? Yes. Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Run Fatboy Run were all fun movies and I’ll be checking this one out.
I have heard so many great things about this badass action movie that I definitely need to check it out. In fact, when John Ary joined us in December to chat about our Top 3 Favorite Films of 2014, he mentioned this as one of his.
The guy in this movie looks a lot like Michael Douglas. Wonder if there is any relation… Anyway, this film is a biopic about the life and times of artist Vincent van Gogh. If you couldn’t tell by the DVD cover art, then maybe you should watch this and learn something.
I usually try to only do one “Nope” per DVD/Blu-Ray column. And I used that one before. But I guess if you were to infer I had a second “Nope” to use, it might be for this on. Like, for real, this looks like pure shit. An evil Ouija board? NO FUCKING SHIT! It’s as if first time director Stiles White (yes, that’s his fucking name) just opened up a camera and took a dump inside of it. Stiles did some special effects work on the Sixth Sense, Galaxy Quest, and more when he was at Stan Winston Studio. But he just had to direct his first movie and it just had to be this piece of garbage.
This is supposed to be really fucking good. When we spoke with Alexandre Rockwell a few months back he said he really liked it and Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises and Killing Them Softly) is supposed to be sensational in it. It is about a teen who gets transferred to an adult prison and meets the ultimate badass there … his dad!
From what I get from the IMDB description, some Hollywood actress sells her soul to become famous and has to kill or some shit. Meh.
The DVD cover screams out “THIS IS A FUCKING NICHOLAS SPARKS PIECE OF SHIT.” And guess what? It is.
Okay, so this really isn’t my cup of proverbial tea but for those into romance movies, this is supposed to be really good. This movie explores a couple’s relationship but it is broken into three films (one from Professor X’s point of view, one from Jessica Chastain’s point of view and one from both their perspectives). Apparently it is character driven and well written. So skip The Best of Me and watch this instead if that’s your sort of thing.
A documentary about broke, desperate men trying to make a living in the oil fields of North Dakota. I had no idea North Dakota had oil fields. So now I know.
I know what Nick Nightly is getting for his birthday this year!
Last, but not least, a trio of Studio Ghibli films for you to buy on Blu-Ray!
